So, my wedding is less than 10 months away and I only have my RH and my Photographer booked. I'm beyond stressed out between work and going to school that I barely have had time to look at other vendors and FH has barely been any help to me. I'm so annoyed at this point I've even though about cancelling my wedding. Any tips on how to cope without totally losing my self control?

Re: So overwhelmed
trust me I dont think youre the only person whos been feeling like this.
Take for example me-NOTHING planned. sure the stress is catching up on me, but I have to really put my job and my life ahead of the big day.
Dont cancel the wedding, set a time frame of when you really want things ready. Why not try over the summer? This way school will be out and maybe you can take a few personal days from work to devote 100% to wedding plans! I honestly think wedding planning in the summer is way more fun! I know Im a dork!

Re: So overwhelmed
I totally know how you feel. I hardly have anything done either. The best advice I got about wedding planning is to make it fun and not stressful. Ask your FH to be more involved in the planning and have fun together. And you can always ask you bridal party to help you with things, that's why they are there

trust me, it will all work out
there are people who have planned in 6 months or less. Make a list and tackle each thing at a time, take care of things that need to get done first and dont worry about small things until you get closer to your wedding. Somehow these things do get done, 10 months is more than enough time no need to cancel your wedding.

Re: So overwhelmed
I was given advice that the best way to enjoy wedding planning is to focus on one thing at a time. I think it becomes very overwhelming if you make one appt for photography, one appt for flowers etc.... Just focus on your next vendor until you have made your decision. I have been doing this and I have not felt so overwhelmed like i did in the beginning.

Re: So overwhelmed
Honestly this website is great but its also the devil. alot of the girls on here have planned and booked things soooo far inadvance then it is necessary...and thats great for them! BUT it also gives all of the other girls who have been putting it off for reasons the feeling that they have no time left to plan! 10 months is alot of time outside of this website.... there used to be a time when couples got engaged and married within a few months! trust me its more then possible for you to book your venders in 10 months! dont feel like you have to cancel your wedding because you dont think you have enough time to plan. it will all work out!

Thanks girls. I think I'll feel better once I get my DJ booked. I think that's just stressing me out big time.

Re: So overwhelmed
Also check out peoples reviews of DJ's and then use that to narrow your search.
I find it overwhelming to see so many vendors.
I set a budget for that item ex. DJ I dont want to sepand more than $1100, then that narrows the selection, aftet that I look for those djs with good reviews in your price range and go on from there.
I find the budget really helps in making decisions simpler.
Good Luck and remember we are all here to help!!!!

once you get the planning thing on a roll it will be really exciting. I mean my opinion, why should I book everything all at once? It will be more fun when its closer to the wedding!

You will get it done don't worry. Every weekend try to get something done with or without your FH if he doesn't mind not being there.

Re: So overwhelmed
I have been feeling so stressed too. My mother is living in this 1976 (the year she got married) delusional world where weddings still cost under 5K. On top of the fact that she's always been very controlling. It's been very hard trying to convince her how expensive things are and within the first week of announcing the engagement I already wanted to elope. Compromises have been made, but for the most part I just do the research myself and then give her the info later and pray.
Thank God my job is at a slow point right now where I can spend half the day looking up stuff. I go to graduate school full time plus work full time plus this AND my FH lost his job exactly one week ago. X100
I think the only way I'll calm down is if I get it all done. Then I can relax and just pay the bills. So close to being done.

Re: So overwhelmed
While planning a wedding can be a lot of fun it can also be extremely stressful especially when you start running out of time. I think you need to put together a timeline and make a top three list of each vendor. Start scheduling appointments now so that everything will be on schedule.
Sometimes it helps just to take a step back and relax. Whatever you do don't cancel the wedding! It will get better.

Re: So overwhelmed
Let me tell you... FH's cousin planned her entire wedding in less than 6 months. It's overwhelming but no matter how much time we all have i think we get overwhelmed at one time or another. 10 months is definitely plenty of time to plan for a wedding. Just start by doing research and compile a list of vendors that you'd like to book. Just work from there. I eliminated a lot of vendors from phone calls alone. Maybe you can start making phone calls. Good Luck!

Simple words of advice: your wedding should be the happiest day of your life- keep thinking that way. Also do not be afraid to ask for help from mom, bridal party, etc

Re: So overwhelmed
Don't freak out, you still have time...Luckily for you, your wedding is during the off-season for weddings so I don't think you'll have too much trouble booking vendors...Just set goals of vendors that you want to book and give yourself up to a two-week period to do research on a certain vendor and book them as soon as you've done enough research...you can do this, don't worry!

Re: So overwhelmed
Don't get stressed. Make yourself a list of most important things that you want to get done. You still have a lot of time. My best friend planned her wedding in 2 months and it was beautiful.

i agree, if you get it all done early then what are you going to do for the few months before. The craziness of it makes it more exciting at least thats what I tell myself.
also STOP reading those magazine timelines, or whatever the knot says you should have done by now. Everyone does things at different times and people book vendors in different orders.
PLEASE enjoy this time being engaged, while engaged we are so focused on the wedding and just that 1 day that we forget to enjoy the ACTUAL engagement period. WE're only engaged a short period of time in our lives, even if it is 2 years like some of us. You want to look back and have great memories. Dont stress things that don't need to be stressed, its not worth it. Do things at your pace, have fun with it, and enjoy the process as much as you can and make the best even out of the bad things, its not always easy planning but life never is.

Very well put Espo! I think that many of us have been there, I know that I have, and I have about 14 months until our big day. Everything will all work out, and you'll book all your vendors in plenty of time. Enjoy this being engaged,
