SO PISSED!!!!!! (long rant) --- Updated again! (bottom p1)

My tax professor stood us up for the third time this semester!!

She was 35 min late for our hour long class on the first day, because she 'forgot' we meet at 2pm instead of 3pm. She then decided to cancel class and not take attendance, even though we all sat there for 35 min waiting for her. She also didn't show up 2 weeks ago and let us sit there for 10 minutes before someone from Career Services brought in a 'speaker' from the IRS who gave us a little talk on why we should work for the IRS. Most of us already have jobs lined up, and they should have given us the option to leave since they didnt take attendance again! (And few of us want to work for the IRS or are even qualified to do so)

Then my teacher decided to schedule a makeup class at 3pm on Friday... which was a pain, but then she didnt show up again today! we only have tomorrow and the week after thanksgiving left so I don't know if she's going to try to squeeze in another makeup... I don't have Friday classes (neither do most students) so I'd be really annoyed if she scheduled one for Friday afternoon again, since I'd otherwise be done for the semester on Thurs.

I wouldn't be pissed if she sent us an email or at least had someone tell us when we got there that class would be cancelled, but she just lets us sit there and wait for her.... over and over.... I think this shows no respect for the students who drove to school special for this class or wasted time sitting there

Please please for those of you who are teachers, let your students know if you plan to cancel class even if it's an email 5 minutes before. Don't let them sit there waiting for you.... for 30+ minutes... on 3 occasions...

Edit: I'm a law student so it's not like any of us live on campus... we are all commuter students

that used to happen to me all the time in college.
we started taking our own attendance and giving it to the Department head.
most of the time they didn't even know the professor wasn't there.

i don't understand why it's so hard to call the school at least and say you're not coming. That way at least there is a note or something so you can leave.

That's so unprofessional. FH is taking a night class at Nassau CC, and his prof stood up the class 4 times already. BUT he has a policy that if you are late to the class more than once, you drop a letter grade. What an a$$. I'm a high school teacher and if I did that I'd be fired in a second. Why is college any different?

Wow, that is ridiculous! Especially since she isn't even marking you guys present after her nonsense!

That suckss!!! OMG I would be so angry. I remember in college walking all the way across campus at 9am and finding a sign on the door that class was cancelled. Apparently my teacher had also emailed us that morning, but I didn't check my school email regularly. You can bet your asss that from that day forward I checked that email all the freakin time!!!

You should notify the head of the dept or the Dean of Academic Affairs. A lot of times they don't know what's going on with professors and they can intervene.

Yeah I probably should. She's a new teacher too. (She was a visiting prof last year and was hired this year). I don't know if Georgetown had a different policy, but come on -- it's only right!

While part of me would normally say 'yay! class was cancelled' I'm upset because I wasted an hour driving there, sitting there, driving back and she will probably schedule another makeup....

My dad is an accountant and I know they get busy with tax season, but this is the fall. She also didn't give us any notice. Plus, it's law school not college...

Update! 4.5 hours after class was supposed to meet we get an email from the prof!

The email basically said that the video from Friday's makeup class should now be available online and she's assuming we know how to check that. NO MENTION OF MISSING TODAY'S CLASS!!!!

Study buddy and I are convinced she thinks today is Sunday and didnt realize we had class. I wonder if she's just going to pretend it never happened...

You guys should complain to the dept head. You're paying a lot of money to learn, not to sit there and waste your time waiting for a professor who may or may not know what day it is, lol!

First that is really unprofessonal of them. I remember back in college that if a professor was more than 20 minutes late the students can leave (under the assumption that the class was cancelled) without and kind of punishment (being marked absent or late). We used to do was take our own attendnace and submit it to the department head so that they'd know who was at least on time. Bad thing was most of my classes were at 8am in the morning so it kinda stunk knowing that a class was cancelled and that you could have slept in more at home.

The attendance thing doesn't really matter since teachers make their own attendance policies and we wont get penalized or anything, but since she does pass around an attendance chart every day it'd be nice to at least get 'credit' for having shown up

maybe she won't make up the classes then you have less things to study for the final....boy, i DO NOTTT miss law school
