So sad....

My friend just called me and her puppy (Puggle) that she just got last week died
They got him from Shake a Paw in Lynbrook and had him for two days before he started to get sick - they had to rush him to the emergency room Friday night and he just kept getting worse...last night around midnight the hospital called to tell them that his heart stopped...The puppy might have had Parvo (sp) which from what I understand is a very infecticious disease that requires quarantine of the puppy as well as the place they got him from...I'm so upset right now...it breaks my heart that their poor little puppy had to go through so much suffering in his short life (9 weeks old)...they are reporting the store to the BBB and will be writing to their local and state representatives...please be careful when you buy from these places - not looking to get flamed but their bad news...

OMG - your poor friend. That is so sad for both your friend and that poor little puppy. I hate how unregulated puppy stores are - so many of those poor puppies get sick and die (after people have taken them in and fallin in love with the cute little guys). That is why I can't even go in those stores, I get so sad and want to adopt all the puppies.

She is so heart broken...and the worst part is she wasn't an animal person before she got him but completely fell in love within one second of seeing him...now she doesn't want another animal ever

She did some extensive research while he was in the hospital and found out her puppy came from the midwest - which is where the majority of puppy mills are...she feels so guilty because they originally going to get a puppy from a breeder in Ohio - but they thought it would be so cruel to have him shipped like a package so thats why they went to Shake a Paw - the doctors at the hospital told her that if everyone stopped buying from pet stores they'd go out of business and it would be the best thing...

I adopted my dog from the North Shore Animal League. While we were waiting for the adoption to go through they told us that he was throwing up, we thought nothing of it. Just chalked it up to being nervous in his surroundings. Well, we got him on Saturday and Monday when I returned home from work, there was puppy vomit all over his cage and the kitchen...but just yellow bile really. I immediately called NSAL and they said to bring him in to their hospital immediately. So we made the trip back thereand they suspected it was parvo and they told us that many puppies die from it. So here we are, totally attached to this puppy after 2 days and we're hearing he might die. My FH started crying and here I was trying to hold it together. The hospital kept the puppy for a week, put him on a feeding tube and medication. I made FH call every day to check on him. Thankfully he got better, so I can't imagine how your friend is feeling. It doesn't take much time to get fully attached to your pet. We had only had 2 days with our dog at that point and it felt like the world was ending when they told us he had parvo.

Sorry to take over this thread...but it hit home a bit. My deepest thoughts are with your friend.
