You might all remember last October I rescued 2 little kittens. They were about 3-4 weeks old and were abandon by my job. It happend that one really cold week in October when it was like 30 degrees out. I knew they wouldn't survive so I took them in.
Now it is time to get them both fixed and their front paws declawed. (only way I could keep them was to do this, I am not a huge fan of it but I have to). It is sooo expensive. I really can't afford to have them both done and I don't want to seperate them after all this time. They are so sweet and it kills me to think of giving one of them up.
I have called so many different vets and no one will work on price with me. I explained how I want to give them a loving home if they can help me out and they won't. Everyone is saying they won't budge on price. Well maybe this is why there are abandon animals everywhere. I'm just so sad, anyone with info on affordable vet care please let me know.
I already called Island Rescue in Bay Shore, they were the cheapest. I called the town animal shelter, (who immediately told me even if I don't keep them they won't take them... ) plus a bunch of other 'affordable' (or so they say) animal care places.

UPDATE!!! Thank you all for your advice. I took it all and did a lot of research it turns out I was getting a pretty incredible price from Island Rescue so I will go with them. My mom and I are going to split the cost so we are all good with that too.
I think I was just getting discouraged because I just felt if you are willing to give an animal (or 2!) a loving home they should help out a little more. Oh well ya can't win them all....
THANK YOU ALL FOR THE HELP, the FM's and the of course your more than GENEROUS OFFERS you are all incredible!

Re: So sad I could cry
I'd look for a mobile vet clinic. They do very low cost neutering/spaying (I mean $75 for a LARGE dog which is amazing!), but personally I wouldn't declaw the cats. I understand you feel it's a last resort to keeping them, but imagine someone ripping out your fingernails! Not pleasant. I'd try everything before resorting to that- even purple nail covers.

Yeah, I agree a lot of vets refuse to do declawing. I personally don't like the practice of it, but I realzie in your instance it's necessary. How about getting them clipped instead of declawed?
Posted by kris_gets_hitched There is something you can get that kind of 'caps' their claws - if you start it on them as kittens, they'll just get used to the feeling and will wear them as adults.
They look like nail polish (or you can get them in clear). Here's the site: Claw Caps
Kris, these are HILARIOUS! I can't imagine a cat walking around with purple, orange, green, etc. claws
They're really funny - they look so silly but they're suppossed to be really good if you get a cat used to them really young.
I, unfortunately, have to clip the cats' nails about once every two weeks...mine are all too old to get used to them.
While they are funny they´re also cute. And I think that its wonderful that then you don´t have to declaw them!!! I always felt like that was someone ripping off my fingernails!! (Although I know they say its not that bad but still)
I have to tell my sister about these. Twice already she´s taken in a whole litter of kittens she found and was like a foster home until they were adopted. She didn´t declaw them but shes always having to clip their nails or have them scratch everything up. Clipping is fine when you have only a couple of cats but with 6 or 7 (or 8 or 9) its quite a headache!!

As far as fixing them, try:
friendsofanimals.org
They're an organization of Vets in the USA who offer GREATLY reduces priced on spays and neuters for dogs and cats. We used them for both of our dogs. At the time, it was $65 to neuter my male and $95 to spay my female. You buy the voucher from their site and select a vet in your area who works with the program (they're all listed on the website)/ I hope this helps save you some $$$ so you can keep them both!!!
Good luck!
I second friends of animals. When I took in my cat a year and a half ago, I purchased the certificate from the for the low cost neutering. A vet in my area accepted it, it was actually a vet I used to go to a while ago. Friends of Animals does not have a low cost declawing program since it is so cruel to the cat, so they don't endorse it.

Definitely try Hauppauge Animal Hospital...I know someone mentioned them, they are truly the best animal hospital out there. We've been using them since my childhood dog.

Re: So sad I could cry... UPDATE!!!
I know you updated this post, but I wanted to let you know that a co-worker of mine just recently had her cat fixed by an ASPCA van. Apparently they park outside various public housing projects because they really want those cats and dogs to get fixed! The cost was $75. Pit bulls are free. Just FYI. Good luck!

Thank you. I called them and their spay program for cats isn't until late April. They didn't mention anything about the van being local to me at all.
Thanks for the tip though.
