So I worked in the ER this Thanksgiving from 7a-7p...which wasnt that bad. The day was super light and then i got to go to my moms after and eat... BUT..I just found out that I'm working Xmas day, which is also my birthday.....and the worst part...ITS A 24HOUR SHIFT! So i won't even get to spend ANY of it with my family. I'm so depressed.
PLUS, I'm working a 24 hour shift on Jan 1, so new years is out too. I hate being an intern.

I am really sorry about your schedule. My FH is a police officer and he is working both Christmas Eve and Christmas, New Years Eve and New Years Day. It sucks to not be able to spend the holidays with your family.

I'm so sorry, that must be really frustrating for you. When I went back to the states last month FH and I celebrated Thanksgiving and Christmas because he felt so bad that I would be away from family. Hopefully the rest of your family can pitch in for something like that and make it seem like the actual day, so you won't feel as depressed.

Thanks guys, it makes me feel a little less depressed to see that others are in a similar boat. I dont really mind working on xmas/my birthday...its just that its a 24 hour call and i dont even get to spend an hour with my family....

That stinks! My FH almost always (for the rest of our lives) will be working Thanksgiving/Christmas Eve/Christmas/New Year's. So, I totally understand how bad that can be.

Thanks for all the kind words everyone, your all so great, i love this site!! We will prob celebrate the day before and after, i'm working xmas eve until about 5 or 6, and then i'm 'post call' on the 26th, meaning that i'll sleep until 3 or so, then i can go to my moms or whatever. I wish i could call out sick...but i can only imagine the s h i t i would get for it....and they would prob want a note or something.

I do live only like 5 miles away from the hospital, but i HIGHLY doubt they will let me leave the hospital at all. Oh well i guess...well celebrate another day

that sucks! i know exactly how you feel and its an awful feeling! fh is a police officer and was originally off holidays but they switched his squad recently, causing him to miss them all! =[ i say you plan a g2g at the hospital and someof us can visit you!
