So stressed

So stressed

My family and I don't have a good relationship at all and my FH wants a big wedding and the thought of it makes me want to vomit. I don't want to take that experience away from him, but I'm so stressed and I'm so mad at my dad for causing such rifts that I can't enjoy my big day. :(
Any suggestions.

Have you tried asking FH for suggestions? What part of the wedding do you need your family's buy-in on? Is it a financial concern (as in, the bride's family pays)? Is it that your family is unaccepting of your FH? I think we need more information to give you advice.

My family loves my FH, but I'm concerned about the traditional ways a bride's family is supposed to pay. I think my FH and I will just have to do it on our own

Have they offered to pay a portion? My parents are giving us a set amount and FH and I have to cover the rest. It's not always easy to save, but we're doing what we have to do to have the wedding we want. I think those traditions about the bride's family paying are kind of outdated anyway. Even though many still uphold that tradition (FH and I plan on doing this for our daughter someday should we have one), it's not as expected as it used to be.

There are so many ways to cut back on certain aspects of the wedding and have it still be elegant! I see you're looking at a Memorial Day wedding, which is sure to cut back a LOT on venue costs. You can find gorgeous dresses for under $1000. If flowers aren't your thing, cut back a lot on those. There are lots of things you can do and lots of vendors willing to work with your budget!

This!!

Lay it out on the table. If they can contribute anything great & if not you guys will have to cover the costs. Both of our parents contributed a small amt and the rest we paid on our own. Good luck!! Hope everythign works out.

Perhaps if your parents see you saving for the day, they'll be more inclined to chip in with you. Not all parents can swing it, even if they wanted to, with the economy the way it is and people still losing jobs. Like Lori0413 said...there are many ways to cut costs and still have a beautiful wedding.
