So only the parents and the couple talk at the engagement party? The best man /moh don't?

My e-party is this weekend, and I think that only the best man will talk. I know my dad and his mom will not say a word. So, I think it is whatever works for you!

It's usually the ones hosting the party that say something. For our engagement dinner, my mom just said a few words - not the BM or MOH.

My MOH actually threw my fiancee and I a surprise engagement party in June, it was the best, we were both so surprised. But anyway, she made a toast that was so touching to the both of us and then when they served the cake I said a little something to all our friends and family.

After reading etiquette books the father of the bride speaks at the e-party welcoming the his new SIL to the family and gives his wishes to the couple. It is a way of publically recoginizing the engagment. The best man speaks at the wedding. If someone else is hosting the event,then of course, they may give a toast. Anyone can give a toast.

Our 2 BM and MOH all gave speeches. At the end of the party, my FH gave a speech thanking everyone, acknowledging our BP, parents, etc.

I think nowadays anything goes...

My FIL spoke at our engagement party. None of the bridal party spoke at all.

Same here, my parents (the hosts) gave a toast thanking everyone for coming. When they brought out the cake, I gave a toast thanking my parents for the party, and my FILs for traveling to be with us on that day. Those were the only two toasts at the e-party.
