So there was a car in my kitchen...

Yup you heard right! Yesterday at 5:40am my neighbor got into a car accident and got scared then hit the accelerator and ended up in my kitchen! On the way into the kitchen she sideswiped our 10 month old SUV. Great, isn't it? (sorry, i have a sarcastic sense of humor!)

Anyway, she shifted the support beam for our house, broke the structure, ruined the window and skylighted, cracked the storm door and shifted the door frame, damaged the screen door, cracked our ceramic floor all the way from one end of the kitchen on, etc. I could keep going.

An engineer and emergency construction crew came yesterday and made the place structurally sound. They also put up a tarp so that no rain or bugs would come in through the hole in the front that remained once they removed the crushed brick. I've gotten two insurace adjusters in and next the construction guy has to come through.

OMG!! Did she hit any people or just the house? Was she a friendly neighbor? I hope she has good insurance!!

It was so early that we were still sleeping. Only the paper delivery man's car got hit. If we were in the kitchen, at the table, we would have been really hurt. My neighbor has some minor injuries b/c her airbag didn't go off. We have been relatively friendly and she feels terrible.

My neighbor is petrified to drive now. Two months ago she totaled her Infinity. She got a brand new Lexus 6 weeks ago. I guess that it gone now too b/c you can see it in my house.

Her insurance has been taking care of things and has been on the ball so far (i've been politely riding them to get things done). Things have been going as smoothly as they can and I hope that continues.

I'm not sure what they will find when they open the wall to the left of the kitchen window. That whole wall shifted and support beams might be cracked. I know the crack along the ceiling there got wider over night.

oddly enough, the same thing happened to my brother's deli last summer - a car drove right in!

OMG!!!! your gorgeous house that i love!! no! No! NO! to you - but good that you have a sense of humor about it all! thats crazy that it happened but thank goodness you and dh weren't in the kitchen or near it!!

I hate to say it, but I know how you feel...

14 years ago a guy drove into my parent's house. Into the room I was SITTING IN! He was drunk, got arrested and spent a year in jail. Insurance covered everything, but I still freak out when I hear screeching tires. It was traumatizing.

There was a lot of damage, but in the end, the house ended up looking a hell of a lot better! We got new siding, landscaping, etc. Granted, we had a tarp on the house for a good month of them working. And boy did I get ribbed at school- people saying I 'lived in the drive-thru' stuff like that.

At least YOU weren't hurt-that is all that matters.
