So there was a car in my kitchen...

Original post by Sasha96

Yup you heard right! Yesterday at 5:40am my neighbor got into a car accident and got scared then hit the accelerator and ended up in my kitchen! On the way into the kitchen she sideswiped our 10 month old SUV. Great, isn't it? (sorry, i have a sarcastic sense of humor!)

Anyway, she shifted the support beam for our house, broke the structure, ruined the window and skylighted, cracked the storm door and shifted the door frame, damaged the screen door, cracked our ceramic floor all the way from one end of the kitchen on, etc. I could keep going.

An engineer and emergency construction crew came yesterday and made the place structurally sound. They also put up a tarp so that no rain or bugs would come in through the hole in the front that remained once they removed the crushed brick. I've gotten two insurace adjusters in and next the construction guy has to come through.

Here are a couple of the photos. It looks so much worse in person:

I'm glad nothing happened to the both of you. Its only a house, and a car it can be fixed. Someone must have been watching over you two.

I hate to say it, but I know how you feel...

14 years ago a guy drove into my parent's house. Into the room I was SITTING IN! He was drunk, got arrested and spent a year in jail. Insurance covered everything, but I still freak out when I hear screeching tires. It was traumatizing.

There was a lot of damage, but in the end, the house ended up looking a hell of a lot better! We got new siding, landscaping, etc. Granted, we had a tarp on the house for a good month of them working. And boy did I get ribbed at school- people saying I 'lived in the drive-thru' stuff like that.

At least YOU weren't hurt-that is all that matters.

Wow! I'm glad that you are OK. Thanks for giving me hope that the kitchen will turn out even better. We are looking forward to a new, better window and skylight as well as new tile, door, and screen door. We may even reface our kitchen cabinets.

Wow, thank god you're ok!!! But, can I ask a question - how the hell did this woman end up in your house??????? If she totalled a car 6 weeks ago, maybe it's best if she doesn't ever drive again? I mean, you have to be a REALLY bad drive to total 2 cars (one inside a house) in 6 weeks!!!

My neighbor is petrified to drive now. Two months ago she totaled her Infinity. She got a brand new Lexus 6 weeks ago. I guess that it gone now too b/c you can see it in my house.

Maybe she shouldn't be driving

I am glad everyone is OK

That must have been something to see though; waking up to a car in your kitchen

I'm glad no one was hurt. This happened to my mother also - a car drove across the lawn and smashed into the front porch. No one was hurt but my mother did get a whole new porch, new siding and new furniture.

So glad that you two are ok!! I can only imagine how scary that must have been! I will keep my fingers crossed for you that the insurance companies move quickly and painlessly!!

And I think someone should tell your neighbor it is time to turn in her license, 2 accidents in 3 months I would say is enough!

How scary and horrible is that! I am glad to hear you are physically ok. I hope all the repairs and construction goes smoothly!
