After months of searching for a hall, we finally put a deposit on Lands End yesterday. As FH and I were laying in bed he decides to tell me that his mother HATES lands end and said that it is run down and that it smells. I was so happy that I finally found a place that I loved and now I can relax and now I am so upset. I shouldn't even let it get to me but I can't even sleep now.....what should I do? I need advice asap!!!

lands end is run down? It all looks so new and gorgeous to me! the outside is not as polished as the inside (really just because the entrance is just a big parking lot and doesn't really look like much until you see the beach and the beautiful gardens there) but once you get in the entrance, it's beautiful!
And I've been there twice and never noticed a smell.... unless she just doesn't like ocean smell...
Don't let it get to you. You have chosen your place, so as long as she isn't paying for it, she'll just deal. Lovin Oven is supposed to be fantastic, so you'll definitely have a beautiful and NOT run down wedding.

LET IT GO!!!! If YOU and your FH loved it, that's all that matters. To bad for her. It's your day....and not for nothing, but I'm sure if it 'smelled' you would've noticed!!!! lol no but seriously, If you were completely happy with your decision as a couple, then let it go & she'll get over it. Learn to no let the petty things bother you....because there will be PLENTY of people's opinions and little annoyances that are going to come your way! Don't let it stress you out & ruin this exciting time in your life!

You are going to hit resistance about things with your ILs throughout the wedding planning process. It's just an opinion. What matters is what you and FH think!
I reread your post and wonder why he waited to tell you. Now is the time for FH to stand by you and not be a mamas boy. Not saying he's like that, but I've seen many girls that deal with that. So keep an eye out and nip it in the bud if you must! But don't be a biatch, there are mosre important things to turn bridezilla on.

Maybe she just envisioned you getting married someplace else, maybe she doesn't like the beach thing. But honestly if you love it then that's where you should get married. It's not right for her to tell you that after you put down a deposit. Also, many brides on here have told me this when i was having family issues. They said many people in your family are going to have an opinion about everything you do for your wedding but it's important that you take it with a grain of salt. It's your wedding, your pictures, your memories so do what makes you happy.

Land's End is gorgeous and the food is great. Maybe FMIL hasn't been there recently or is thinking of another RH?

I totally beg to differ. It is not rundown at all inside, the gardens are beautiful and it did not smell at all. You guys being happy with the place is what's important.

I find all parents pull some manipulative crap to get what they want. She probably likes something else better. As long as you are happy, don't let anyone second guess your decisions.
My mom tried to pull the same crap with me. She loved Leonards and Jerricho Terrace. They weren't my style and I decided on Chateau La Mer (with my fiance of course). When I told my mom, she said CLM isn't a place for a wedding (not fancy enough).....and that I should have a christening there instead (whenever I have kids).
Still went with what I wanted and I'm happy I did.

I didn't think LandsEnd was run down! I though it was quite lovely. The Only reason we didn't pick it is because we are getting married in the Winter. And we thought the walk to the front door would have been too cold for my older guests to walk(I have about 20 - 80 year olds coming). We picked Flowerfield in St James...they Are owned by the same Company...if Your FMIL is still un-happy...take A look at Flowerfields.

Lands end is far from being run down! Not everyone's taste is the same.
If it was really a problem with it, why didn't she say something BEFORE you put the deposit down.
My rule is, if you don't speak up, don't expect me to consider what you have to say after I've already asked you for your opinion and you didn't give one.
You will have a beautiful wedding at one of the more hgh end reception halls. Don't worry about i!

If you both love it, her opinion just doesn't matter...there are people who wanted our wedding elsewhere...and we just don't care...they wanted them in 'ritzier' (read: snobbier) locales...but that's not our style. we are happy with our choice and that's what matters.
