After months of searching for a hall, we finally put a deposit on Lands End yesterday. As FH and I were laying in bed he decides to tell me that his mother HATES lands end and said that it is run down and that it smells. I was so happy that I finally found a place that I loved and now I can relax and now I am so upset. I shouldn't even let it get to me but I can't even sleep now.....what should I do? I need advice asap!!!

believe me, they wouldn't be getting the money they get for that place per head if it was 'run down' or 'smelly'. i actually have never heard, up until now, one bad thing about that place. every person i have ever spoken to who attended an affair there loved it and raved about the food, views and service. i have a wedding of a girlfriend of mine there in august and i can't wait b/c of all the nice things i have heard.
i would tell your fh that his mother should keep her negative comments to herself-- if you two love it, that's what's important and if she doesn't have anything nice and positive to add she shouldn't say anything at all. she should call up and see what that place is pulling in per head for a saturday night and then take a look at how booked they are-- she'll realize really fast that land's end is a nice place.
i hope it works out one way or another

First, why do you care what someone other than FH thinks? Second, why did FH even bother to tell you?
NPTBride just got married there (April) and her pics are gorgeous and she said everyone loved it.
The only people whose opinions count are yours and FHs - ignore everyone else or you will be absolutely crazy by the time your day gets here. Everyone and their uncle will have an opinion that they feel obligated to share, which will also be an opinion you have no interest in.

I am sorry that your FMIL is doing this to you. Maybe she is jealous that she did not pick your place. I do not know your MIL, but it is just a thought.
Personally I think Land's end is beautiful, not run down at all.

I've heard nothing but wonderful things about Lands End. Although I think when it comes to your mother in law you shouldnt worry about and go with what you love. I would wonder if FH was telling you this because maybe he was having second thoughts? Im sorry I dont mean to add on to your problem by having you worry about something else but I would find out why he would stress you like that before you plan any further. I actually used to work there back in high school and I can tell you first hand.... it is soooo NOT run down. The only problem I can tell you about is this: If you're CH is outside and it falls around low tide it will smell a little bit because low tide tends to smell..... but people will be too busy oohhing & aahhing over how great the food is (cuz it is!) and how beautiful the place is (cuz again... it is!) that they won't even realize the low tide smell, if CH even interferes with low tide. I say ignore her! You're never going to be able to please everyone and so long as you and FH are happy with the place then that is all that matters! (unless FMIL is contributing significantly...)
