So yesterday, I was watching My Fair Wedding with David Tutera. I love watching his show. I get so many ideas from it. I start to watch the show where he asks the bride to get into her wedding dress. When she was about to walk in the room, I was thinking her dress would be something different. When she enters the room, she's wearing the dress that I HAVE! David then goes on to say that the wedding dress is 'outdated and horrible.' I was so upset. My FH was sitting next to me. I'm sure he wasn't paying attention to the show; however, I had to hold back my tears so he wouldn't suspect anything. I'm at the point where I don't even want to wear the dress. The dress is an Oleg Cassini from DB. For the fact that a person that everyone knows on national tv says that my dress is 'outdated and horrible' makes me so upset. I have been researching different dresses this whole morning. I don't know whether I should just keep the dress I already have or start dress shopping again. If I decide on another dress, I have to sell the DB dress. My sisters are saying that I should just wear the dress that I have because it's a beautiful dress. What do you think I should do girls? I feel like I'm so upset and confused!!

Who died and made Tutera the be all-end all of weddings? I met him and don't love him, to put it nicely. I'm sure your dress is gorgeous and you picked it for a reason! No one will make the connection between your dress and the one on TV.

I think the dress is nice. I don't think it's really outdated. It's solid ivory with embellishments. Usually I don't really care about what others think; however, it was on tv where people watch all the time.
Dont worry love! I doubt anyone will even realize that your dress was the same one as the one on the show.. Show us a pic! I bet its GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously, David Tutera is a catty little biatch!!! He's probably required to say things like that so that no one gets all in a huff about him changing things up!!
He also hates the color green and my entire color scheme for the wedding was green. I didn't lose any sleep over it.
Don't worry, you're dress is beautiful! It was one of the designs I clipped for future reference before I got engaged!

It was that episode where she came out with the same dress. On the DB website the dress is shown with ivory/champagne. I got the dress in solid ivory. The episode was the 'pirate themed wedding.'

I have to be honest....Tutera is NOT a wedding expert. He needed to change her dress or he wouldn't have a show for us to watch. I, for one, thought that her dress was beautiful (aside from the INSANE spillage!!) You chose it for a reason...and I think you should stick with your gut!! I agree, I would have been upset by his comment...but I also don't take everything he says as the final word. There have been MANY things that he has changed that I have questioned.
If you REALLY want to change dresses...we will help you...but I think you should take the show for for what it is....its a reality show...he's not the be all, end all of wedding planning!!

1st - I dont always love what he picks- his taste is just that- HIS taste
2nd- his job is to hate what they pick- or else there would be no show- even if he likes it- he has to nit pick and tear it apart
3rd dresses look different on different people
4th you picked the dress you felt beautiful in- and im sure you look just as beautiful in it
5th NOONE will see your dress and think of the show- only crazy brides like us pay attention anyway LOL

do you have a pic of the dress or the style #? i saw that episode weeks ago but i don't remember what her original dress was. i remember thinking her new dress was beautiful, but like all the OP have said, sometimes, the dresses he picks are over the top and they really have no say. so they could go through their whole wedding thinking they look awful. and what is they wanted something slinky and he only chose ballgowns? you know? you chose that dress because it looked beautiful on you and because you could envision yourself walking down the aisle to see FH in that dress.
please don't worry about what he says, he is not the wedding expert.

here is the truth:
unless you are getting some crazy, off the runway out of this world, 'why did the designer do that with the feathers?????' kind of dress, there is almost NO dress style out there that hasn't been done before, in some way or another. Mine is fit and flare- haven't we ALL see that? So- with that logic in mind, all dresses can be considered outdated. And since a wedding dress is SO personal, anyone other then you can think its 'horrible.' My sister would NEVER where the dress style that I picked...like EVER. With THAT logic in mind, all dresses can be considered horrible.
