With one month to go I just found out that we cannot go to the resort we picked for our HM. The Aventura Spa Palace was affected by hurricane Emily and will not be accepting guests for approx. 90 days. That means we are out of luck. Where should we go? We can go to Secrets Capri or another resort but we really had our heart set on this and also that is also a little more $. I don't know if we should just pick a new destination all together. We booked our HM all the way back in December bc we knew this was the place we loved the most! Any advice on where to go would be appreciated. TIA!

There are so many options. my FH and I took forever to decide b/c we had too many choices (good problem to have!)
how about Aruba? it's out of the hurricane belt and this way you won't have to worry about another hurricane.

Too expensive for us that's why we chose Mexico in the first place and we already paid it in full so we wouldn't have to worry about it. Plus we really want all inclusive and I thought that wasn't really known for all inclusives.

We stayed at Royal Hideaway in Playa del Carmen for our HM
and we loved it!! Highly recommend it! It was mainly couples on their HM or anniversary at the resort. (no kids at all) The service is top notch, the food is amazing! The spa services were excellent! I dont think you would be disappointed! If you need any more info feel free to FM me!

how about Jamaica? that's where we are going. we did a TON of research and it was definitely one of the best values out there for a 1st class resort!

We stayed here as well and also loved it. However, check because as of this morning there were reports that Playa del Carmen, Puerto Aventuras, Cancun all have damage.

Would you consider an AI in Jamaica? I hear that Couple Swept Away Negril is great...and there are tons of great AI there for the same price. Just go 5* or higher...check out Discount All Inclusive

Our agent told us we can go to Secrets Capri and keep our same flights and not have to pay a dime. I have to talk to FH about this though. I am concerned about the area being ok by then. I will have to look into some of these other places. But I know that Royal Hideway is out of our budget we had looked at it before.

We were looking at the place you are staying at... we actually decided on Secrets Excellence in Cancun it got great reviews!

Please, please call and if you can, call the hotels directly. I say this because the news (the Spanish news) are claiming that there is extensive damage in the Yucatan Peninsula area (Mayan Riviera)...even if your hotel is OK you don't want to go down there and find everything nearby run down.

No need to thank me...I want you to have a wondeful HM without stress! And Valentinegirl is right, Punta Cana is supposed to be amazing. Ask your TA about Secrets Punta Cana and Paradisus Punta Cana (the two best in the area). They're both 5*. If you need me to call the hotels for you directly (in Spanish) let me know. I'm really sorry to hear that. We are staying around there too and were really worried, but found out our place is ok and they're reopening it this week. We're staying at El Dorado Royale. It's really nice...you should check it out! Good luck! Secrets is really nice too we almost booked there.

Don't worry, you are not alone. We are going to mexico too, the royal mayan in Riviera Maya 8/13. I am still waiting to hear from them to see if the place is ok. I knew this would happen because it is just my luck they would get a hurricane there. If I was going to bahamas they would have gotten it there again!!

Personally, I would go to another destination. God forbid you change your hotel, only to find that the area itself is in bad shape.
We're going to Cabo on the west coast of Mexico to avoid a hurricane. Would that be a possibility?

try Secrets in Punta Cana, we went there last year and it was not expensive. it was 3K for 7 nights all inclusive. Dominican Republic is not expensive.
