With one month to go I just found out that we cannot go to the resort we picked for our HM. The Aventura Spa Palace was affected by hurricane Emily and will not be accepting guests for approx. 90 days. That means we are out of luck. Where should we go? We can go to Secrets Capri or another resort but we really had our heart set on this and also that is also a little more $. I don't know if we should just pick a new destination all together. We booked our HM all the way back in December bc we knew this was the place we loved the most! Any advice on where to go would be appreciated. TIA!

Sorry Try the Divi Divi in Aruba, it is all inclusive, my friends, friend went and she loved it. Also try St. Lucia they are out of the hurricane path.

Ive been to the Riveira Maya and will be hm'ing in Aruba and so far aruba has been much much cheaper.
Flight alone was 500 less than to Cancun
I really am happy that it is below the hurricaine belt so i am guaranteed good weather.
What about Aruba did you find so expensive? I only suggest it so you can relax w/o worrying about more storms

Why not try The Dominican Republic. It's so cheap and there are a few really nice resorts. There's a Secrets there that I heard was top notch. Have you spoken to a travel agent. That would be my best advice.

We wanted Aventura too! We looked at El Dorado, but be careful! Although it says 'Fully Operational,' check the Hurricane Emily update on their website. The casitas are closed! They were the best part of the resort! Now we're looking at Couples Swept Away Negril and Secrets Punta Cana.

Before you book anything else, check the reviews on tripadvisor and follow someone elses advice about calling the hotels yourself. Go to the deli and buy a phone card and just check in with any resorts you're interested in.

We were suppose to go The Grand Xcaret on Auguat 11th but the resort is closed until 10/15. Now we are going to Punta Cana and suppose to get money back!

We were supposed to go to Secrets Capri last Monday (July 18th). Needless to say, we cancelled, and did not lose any money from the resort or the outbound flight, though we are still discussing the fee American wants to charge us for the return flight cancellation (honestly, how can you fly home if you could not fly there)?
Definitely check out conditions down there. I would look for a chamber of commerce or something of the sort--the hotels might tell you whatever just so you come down. If you are worried about it and can switch your honeymoon without penalities, I would do it. We wound up going to Quebec City and stayed at the Chateau Frontenac. It all wound up being cheaper, but we did have to pay for our meals, so about the same. FM if you have questions.
I'm really sorry this happened to you, and I know how you feel. We had our hearts set on Maya Riviera, and while I loved Quebec City, it wasn't quite the same.

I would look into DR-it is supposely beautiful and very affordable. Sorry this is happening to you!

Ok most of El Dorado's casitas are up and running. Now it's back in the running. Btw, my travel agent said to avoid the Dominican Republic because of Malaria outbreaks...yikes!

You should definitely check out our honeymoon spot...Secrets Excellence Resort and Spa in the Myan Riveria. I was already informed the resort is 100% operational. I would double check on Secrets Capri because the last I heard the message said, to be advised.
Secrets Excellence Resort and Spa is about a year old. It's an all inclusive and all I hear is really good reviews about it.
another consideration is staying at another palace resort....we're staying at cancun palace. You can use all of the resorts interchangably...you also get the pass that gives you the free excursions. Maybe they'll upgrade you to moon palace I heard it's beautiful!
