i am getting married at St Edwards in Syosset. i went to middle school there and all three of my grandparents had their funerals there and it has very special meaning to me. So, FH and i decided to get married there. St Edwards is a one priest church and when i booked my ceremony, the priest told me that he had another bride booked on the same day but her wedding was in the city. he said if her wedding was in the morning, he could marry us (he is one of the reasons we wanted to get married at St Edwards also). he told me he would let me know. this is was MARCH 2008.
I have been calling and leaving messages for two months. he finally got back to me and he said he doesn't have the brides phone number and he cannot find out what time the wedding starts and she hasn't called him. So now i have no one to marry us!
i wanted a priest who i had a relationship with - not just some random person to get up there and marry us. i dont know what to do - i was thinking about trying to find another priest because basically my priest is saying, 'let's just wait to see what happens' and i can't wait!

i'm sorry is there a deacon in the parish that can do the ceremony for you? someone that you may know?? good luck!!

there is a deacon that we know who is very good friends with our family but apparently he can't do a mass, and i want a mass. he can't even split it with a priest (priest does the mass stuff and deacon marries us)
also, the priest i wanted is the main pastor of the church! AND he's the only priest there!
i am going to start trying to find someone else

I had the same problem - I am so sorry - that is such a stressful thing. We decided to get married at the church I grew up going to in Manhasset - I've lost my brother and Dad to cancer in the past few years and I just wanted a special place that meant something to me as well...I wanted our family priest who is no longer with the parish but is teaching now at a college nearby and he was already booked. Then I tried for months to get in touch with another priest at a different parish who was there when I was little and he said he'd have to see how things go. So frustrating. My advice is to keep asking everyone you know who is your religion. I ended up finding out about this amazing priest who married my best friends sister because she was telling her sister one day about my issue - we're having him come out to Long Island for us.

thank you so much for your post - i am absolutely going to take your advice and start looking for someone to marry us.
it's just so upsetting to think that we would have to go through all of this just to get married in the church!

I can't believe he didn't have the common courtesy to tell you two months ago about this other bride. And why the hell hasn't she told the damned priest about what time she's getting married???????????? Umm, my officiant already has all of those details--he got them in November 2008 for July 2009!!! You're trying to do the right thing and she's not. He should just say (in a nice priest way), 'Sorry, you haven't told me when you're getting married, so I already booked somebody (you) for that date!!!' then hang up.

i ABSOLUTELY agree wtih you! i don't even know if this girl belongs to my parish! i literally am just dumbfounded at how everything has been being handled. it is making me sick! I have been contacting him continuously since we booked the date almost one year ago! ugh!
