SO upset right now...

Original post by RisiLeigh

I mentioned this the other day as a potential problem - well now it's OFFICIALLY a BIG problem and I don't know what to do...

Our plan was to get ready in a room at the Holiday Inn in Carle Place. I called a few months back and they are the only hotel in the area offering a 'day rate.' I learned on Monday that the 'day rate' is not something that can be reserved ahead of time - it's a walk-in thing. That's not gonna float!

I emailed the 2 ladies that I did the block with and I just got off the phone with one of them. There is nothing she can do. She told me I really need to just book rooms for the night before so we can be in it for the daytime of our wedding day. That won't work either b/c even if we did that, we'd have to check out of the room by 2pm!!!

I am so upset right now. I don't know what to do or where to get ready

Are you staying at the hotel for the night of your wedding also? I am confused. I am staying at the holiday inn locally. 600 is too high a price that they are charging you. I stay mainly at the holiday inns. I didn't need this stress either. We are getting ready at the hotel also. I bought the HM suite for 2 nights, the night before and the night of. If you are staying there, then why not do that? Did you check online rates? what about other discounts like AAA or state govt (if you know anyone that works for the govt-they give you an awesome rate) or the fed gvt rate, priority club and entertainment. I am a discount freak and never pay full price for anything. We got the 3 bedroom suite for $179/night! It has the jacuzzi and everything.

Why are you booking 2 rooms for 2 nights. Online rates are about $170/night. It would cost about $350 for piece of mind. Or, why can't you do the one night and ask one of your relatives that are staying at the hotel if you can use their room for the weddding night, just to get ready in it. Have that relative book both nights and you stay at the room until you are ready to leave and then they can take the room over. You split the room rate with them (to cover the one night). I am sure that you can explain to a friend or a relative your dilema and they will work with you. That way you are only paying the $170 for the one night and no more worries.

Re: SO upset right now...

Same situation here.....At first I was going to book it for two nights and just sleep over the night before and have it all day to get ready in. I was planning on giving it to my MOH for the night of the wedding as part of her gift. Then, I learned that I could stay there the night before, cancel the 2nd night within 24 hours, and request an extended stay where check out would be at 6pm instead of 11am. The hotel charges 1/2 price for that extended stay, but it was so worth it because I was going to get ready there and leave by 4pm. That could be an option for you but you'll need to be sure to cancel the 2nd night at the 24 hour mark. Now I've just resigned myself to spend the extra $300 for the 2nd night and stay there with DH. I feel good about this decision, except that I need to leave our suite at 4:30 AM after the night wedding and head out to JFK for our 8:50am flight!!! I toyed with the idea of staying closer to the city, but I'll fall asleep on the ride in and that will be the end of my on the wedding night!!!! Good luck in your decision!!!!

Are you staying at the same Holiday Inn that I am? Okay the reason we'd need 2 rooms is b/c there are alot of us. And the reason we'd need to book 2 nights is b/c they aren't letting us extend the check out late enough the day of the wedding. Extended check out for them is 2pm which means we would be standing in the hotel lobby for 90 mins before we even need to leave for the church. They are refusing to extend it even 1 more hour. Also, the 'best' rate they are giving me is the rate my guests are paying for the block - which is $155/room/night. That comes to almost $600 (if not more than that) for the 2 rooms and 2 nights. It's just friggin' ridiculous. I have sicced my MOH on them though, b/c she is my 'mouth' and so I am hoping it'll get me somewhere

My home is in Huntington and it's basically a clutter-hole. I love my mother to death but she is a pack-rat and she'd need to take off work everyday from now until the wedding in order to get the house in the type of order it'd need to be to have everyone get ready there and have pics taken there. It's just not something I want (or she wants) to do. My grandmother lives in Mineola and I'd have gotten ready there, but she is hosting ALL my OOT relatives (including my 1 JBM and 1 FG) so there wouldn't be room there. All of FH's relatives live out east so that's not convenient either. This just the only thing that will work.
