I mentioned this the other day as a potential problem - well now it's OFFICIALLY a BIG problem and I don't know what to do...
Our plan was to get ready in a room at the Holiday Inn in Carle Place. I called a few months back and they are the only hotel in the area offering a 'day rate.' I learned on Monday that the 'day rate' is not something that can be reserved ahead of time - it's a walk-in thing. That's not gonna float!
I emailed the 2 ladies that I did the block with and I just got off the phone with one of them. There is nothing she can do. She told me I really need to just book rooms for the night before so we can be in it for the daytime of our wedding day. That won't work either b/c even if we did that, we'd have to check out of the room by 2pm!!!
I am so upset right now. I don't know what to do or where to get ready

can you book it for that day and request an early check in? I can't believe their not working with you on this. What time time do you need to get in the room? Or maybe get it the night before, and request a late check out? HTH!

She told me that early check-in wouldn't be guaranteed - it's based on how busy they are that day, etc. We don't even need to be in the room til like 12! Late check-out ends at 2 and she said it can't be extended another hour or 2 b/c the maids leave and wouldn't be able to clean the room.

Sounds like they aren't being accommodating. Ask to speak to their manager/supervisor. Have you blocked rooms at the hotel? If so, they shouldn't want to lose yours & your guests' business.

Yes definitely just book it for the night before and the night of, that way you're guaranteed a room.

either book it for two nights, which i know is expensive if you're only in the room a few hours. Or, is there a friend or relatives house that you can get ready at?

I did speak to a manager and maybe I just wasnt threatening enough, I don't know. I tend to be too nice. Maybe I need to sic my MOH on them LOL.
2pm IS the extended check out time! I asked if they can't give us just 1 more hour and she told me no b/c the maids leave at 4 and they won't be able to clean the room if we checked out at 3.
Booking 2 rooms for 2 nights is going to cost me $600. I just can't afford it
My grandmother lives in Mineola and the only reason we aren't using her house is b/c ALL my OOT relatives are staying there! There's no room!

Can you try another hotel nearby? There is the Hilton Garden Inn, Hampton Inn, Red Roof Inn, La Quinta, Garden City Hotel, and I am sure this is a few more.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but this is a pretty standard hotel police.
Here is something that might work but could be a little risky:
Find out the hotel's cancellation policy. If you can canel a reservation up until that day -- book a room for two nights under someone else's name and get your room for the day rate. Have that person cancel their room late in the morning the day of and then you know there is extra room in the hotel. If that doesn't make sense let me know.
2. Ask what the half day rate is for an extended check-out. Most hotels will let you check out at 6:00 pm for a half day rate.

Did you try the Roslyn Claremont Hotel? There are also a lot of hotels in Great Neck. Call around. Are you getting married at the RH? Can you get ready there?

The Red Roof Inn in Westbury (near Lowes/ Target) has rooms available for anywhere from $135 - $180 a night.. if that helps you.
the Roslyn Claremont did not have rooms available.

DH & I didn't want to stay together the night before the wedding.
We booked the Jr. Suite for him for the night before the wedding, and got a late check out for that room.
We booked the Bridal Suite for 2 nights. I stayed there alone the night before & then got ready there the day of the wedding.
And then we stayed there together for the Wedding Night.
I think its your only option.

On my lunch break, I called back and asked to speak to a manager. He didn't seem like he would do much for me, either. All he told me was that if we DID choose the 'day rate/walk-in' option, we shouldn't have a problem getting a room b/c they have so many. I said, 'This is my wedding day, I can't rely on 'shouldn't be a problem,' I need DEFINITE answers!' He told me he was gonna talk to the GM when she got back from lunch and would call me back today. We will see if that actually happens.

i had trouble with my hotel too - they have weird check in and out issues - why cant they understand its our wedding!! ugh!
