FH's dad asked him about the prenup. We both knew this was coming and we have talked about it plenty of times before, so FH already has a lawyer and their lawyer will start the contract pretty soon. Now i have to get a lawyer, i started searching online but if anyone knows of anyone that is really good, please FM me the info.
I am not sad, i just want it to be quick, and painless and of course fair to both of us. and then i want to put it away and never have to look at it ever again

We spoke about it, but FH is aganist it so we will not have one. I wouldn't care, I know it would just sit in the same place as all other documents...

Re: So weird it finally happened
wish i could help... but the concept of a prenup just cracks us up b/c we've got NOTHING. i mean, technically FH owns a house...but we don't even live there.
our prenup would consist of who gets what video games and visitation rights for the pets.

Not that I'm suggesting that anyone get a pre-nup, but I think it can also protect your FUTURE earnings, not just what you have prior to the marriage.

he owns a business so im guessing that has alot to do with it...they usually recommend this if you own a business especially if you started it before you met the person you are marrying, if you started it together then obviously its different.

that's definitely true, and unfortunately I think it's a great thing to have this day in age. It not only protects the person WITH money, but it makes sure their spouse is taken care of in the manner they are used to if they split up. I also like the prenups that say YOU GET NOTHING IF YOU CHEAT. that makes me happy.
i think that should be something every couple signs just b/c no matter what you have.
I know several people who have gotten a divorce and their ex wives walk away with half of everything even though they were the ones who were cheating and ruined the marriage. it makes me sick how things work out.
i told FH if it doesnt work his family can visit him at Holy Rood

Thank you so much for the FM, i definately have alot of questions.
I mean aside from him protecting his business, and his inheritence, what about pets? would that go in the prenup? I know in my parents divorce our dog was the first line in the divorce agreement

I have to tell you that I respect you both for doing this. I know it is not easy and some people would never agree to it but you can't blame his father for wanting to protect what was there before you and that you are understanding to that says a lot about you.
I know someone who the prenup broke up the engagement but that was because it wasn't fair and the FIL's were screwing with her and her future.
Hopefully you will never have to worry about who gets the dog!!!!!!!!!

Thank you so much, its not easy but since we have been open about it since we were together, we have a very honest and open relationship, and i can not blame his dad for wanting to protect his business and inheritence, and all his assets stocks bonds etc.

absolutely. Fh has two friends who are partners in an acctg firm, and they always ask him if they should get a pre-nup to protect the interests of their business. I see nothing wrong with it.
i joke about it to fh, but in our case he'd be the one signing it b/c i own a place and make more money but not so much that either of us think it's necessary. plus even if i HAD money he'd never touch it b/c he is a jaded attorney who has done his fair share of divorces etc.
