so you know those weight watchers success stories?
I dont know if anyone has ever read them...they have them on their website. I decided to type up my story and send it in. If they choose you, they send you questions to answer and then I'm assuming they publish your answers. Since my 2 year annivesary with WW is coming up, I finally decided to just write it up. You girls are all so honest and supportive so I thought maybe I'll show you what I'm sending them and you can give me some feedback.
Here it is:
Name: Colleen
Age: 24
Height: 5’4”
Was: 180 lbs
Lost:58 lbs
Weight: 122 lbs
I never really had difficulty with my weight. I was an average weight throughout high school. During my last two years, I even considered myself skinny. During college, though, my food habits changed.
The cafeteria food wasn’t anything to rave about, but the desert bar was fabulous. At every meal I was convinced I needed to have a slice of pie or some cookies to end it. When we got sick of the cafeteria food my friends I would just order in pizza or get fast food.
Despite my very unhealthy eating habits, exercising daily kept from gaining too much weight. I was a member of the cheerleading team and we had practice five times a week, in addition to going to the gym. However, some of the food caught up with me. In the first two years, I gained about 10 lbs.
At the end of my sophomore year, though, I broke my ankle. I ended up taking the next two years off from cheerleading. However, my eating habits remained the same. Without the exercise, I gained weight very quickly. By the time I graduated college I had put on 50 lbs.
After graduating college and seeing the number on the scale, I decided to do something. I joined a gym and began to count calories. I didn’t know how many calories I should be counting, or what constituted as “good food”. But I figured as long as I was exercising I would be okay.
After about 6 months with little results, I decided to join Weight Watchers. I finally learned how to eat healthy. I went to meetings every Sunday morning, counting my points, and wrote down everything. I was determined.
One of the hardest parts of the weight loss process was celebrating every pound, and not letting a bad week throw me off track. Some weeks I would stay the same, lose .2 lbs, or even gain. It’s tempting to just give up when the number on the scale is barely budging. After 20 lbs people weren’t even noticing my weight loss. I found this to be very discouraging. After all, I was working so hard and no one seemed to notice the results. I wanted results that were noticeable!
Two things helped me through this: meetings and weekly weigh-ins. While attending the meetings, I felt that I had a great support system. If I ever felt like giving up, there was a room of people, along with a leader to give encouragement. Weighing in also kept me going. Knowing that every Sunday I would weigh in helped to hold me accountable. Even on weeks when I stayed the same, I just vowed to try harder next week.
In addition to attending Weight Watchers I also went to the gym. Exercise has now become a hobby of mine. I found that not only is it good for my body, but it can also be a wonderful stress reliever.
9 months after joining Weight Watchers I became a lifetime member. I am now celebrating my 2-year anniversary as a member. I have maintained my weight for over a year now. Weight Watchers is more than just a diet, but a lifestyle. Without even thinking about it, I know the points of certain foods, good health guidelines, and I know when I can let myself indulge. This has all become second nature to me thanks to Weight Watchers.
I’m proud to say that I have accomplished more than just losing 58 lbs. I will be getting married this July. When I first started trying on wedding dresses I was a size 16. My wedding dress will be a size 4. In May, I am running my first 10k. I would have never accomplished this without walking into my first Weight Watchers meeting on January 13, 2008 and making that lifestyle change.
