For all you ladies who currently reside in Brooklyn or Queens must apply for their new ss card in the Brooklyn or Queens office only. I went to the SS office today in Midtown and was told that I must go to the downtown Brooklyn office to change my name.
I know this also applies for Queens as well.
I was so upset because I know ladies who have gone to various office in NYC who live in Staten Island and NJ and were able to get their new cards there.

I know, imagine how upset I was when I actually went to the midtown office on my lunch hours and sat there for a 1/2 hour only to be told this. I even called prior to me going there to bew sure!

Try to get there when they open. I was there for a total of 45 minutes today even with some confusion b/c my middle name was entered wrong and the girl helping me had to go talk to her supervisor.

I went over there today it really stunk!! The line was so freaking long and then you have to wait until you get your SS card to go to the DMV

I didn't need my Social Security card to go to DMV. They only asked for the Marriage Certificate.

No you do not...the DMV only requires your current licence and you marriage certificate. You have to fill out one form to change your name and one to change your title and registration.

Re: Social Security - Brooklyn/Queens Ladies
Because I'm a Queens resident, I had to go to the Jamaica offices....get ready, it's insane in there. I stood on line for about 45 minutes. And apparently that was considered a 'short wait time'.

I went to the DMV today after being in the SS office and they told i needed an original SS card and that once it comes in the mail that then i can apply for my ID.I told them i was going to change my name because i had gotten married and this is what they told me.

I went straight to DMV after SS, and all I was able to change it-I had my marriage certificate and letter from SS..nobody said anything. I went to the DMV on 878 (maybe its Lawrence?)

It stinks that they would not let you change your name. Check their website: http://www.nydmv.state.ny.us/dmvfaqs.htm#name
What location did you go to? I hate that things vary from location to location!

Re: Social Security - Brooklyn/Queens Ladies
I think I am going to go tomorrow morning and get my SS card. It stinks because now I have to go out of my way 30 min when there is a ss office that is less than 2 min away from my house.
