Social Security - Brooklyn/Queens Ladies

Original post by I Love Paolo

For all you ladies who currently reside in Brooklyn or Queens must apply for their new ss card in the Brooklyn or Queens office only. I went to the SS office today in Midtown and was told that I must go to the downtown Brooklyn office to change my name.

I know this also applies for Queens as well.

I was so upset because I know ladies who have gone to various office in NYC who live in Staten Island and NJ and were able to get their new cards there.

Do I need my current SS card to change my name? I lost my SS card so I wanted to get a new one with my new name.

No..I had lost mine too (since HS ).

For those that went to the DMV: Do they take your old license away???

No. They returned my old license to me and gave me the temporary license with the new name. You do need to take a new picture, though.

anyone ever go tot he one in flushing???????

are you talking about the DMV in flushing? I live like 10 minutes away, it;s the only one I go to. It's not that bad there just stay away on Thursdays bc they open later and the lines are super long.

Inside they told us its best to come before 11 because anytime after that is insane in there.

you can no longer get ur ss card changed anywhere in Queens except their Jamaica location, it's a location just for issuing SS cards.

I learned my lesson today. DH insisted to go to the one in Glendale when i told him there is no way theyre going to do it.

Henceforth, we ended up going to the one in Jamaica. Not too bad for a Tuesday afternoon. I was out in 30 minutes.

BUT, the lady did tell me I couldnt go to the DMV until I got my SS card mailed to me. It seems like everyone is told different things, and it could all definitely depend on the location

Oh yeah...forgot to add...my friend went to the DMV and changed her name on her license before she went to the SS office. So I guess everyone will tell you something different.
