some advice

some advice

I'm sure you all know that I was planning on TTC sometime next year...and this post could be the product of PMS...or all the November ladies...

the reason we were waiting for a bit was b/c I quit my job to move to CA and I have yet to find another one...I wanted to find a job and settle in a bit before TTC...

well I have been being pounded with rejection for some time and I feel so purposeless...

would I be foolish to start TTC now? how can I start a job if i am a mother already...has anyone done this? (although I have a huge support system willing to move in with us and help out..and DH can work from home a few days as well) I almost feel like my career aspirations will be gone when I have a baby...please tell me I am being irrational

I was accepted into another graduate program for the spring...will that be difficult if I am pregnant?

is it the PMS talking right now? thanks for at least listening...and letting me type this out...I feel a little bit better just for typing it out...

Hi Erica.

I dont think that it would be a good idea to job hunt pregnant. Even though it is illegal, it may turn some employers off from hiring you if they know you are about to have a newborn at home.. it stinks but its true unfortunatly.. Can you stay home until the baby is born?

I looked for a job from February one year and didnt find the right job until DECEMBER.. it was TOUGH and i gained alot of weight just sitting at home, but the point is i did find a job.. and you will too.. try to keep your hopes up..

so many issues to consider...I think the kicker for me is my 30th b-day is coming up too...mixed in with some PMS...you know what the recipe those ingredients make...lol

Re: some advice

i think i would wait to make any decisions until after the 30th bday - oh and ALWAYS after the period!!

THAT SAID - I have this really strong belief that the time women think most clearly is actually during PMS and their periods. I know it sounds crazy, but I find that most women I know tend to really analyze things during this time, and allow themselves to think from all ends of the spectrum under the ruse of 'i am so hormonal right now' and usually the way they are truly feeling about things is allowed to rise to the surface. I think (speaking from my own experience) I tend to squash concerns and realities until I get my period and then allow it all to flow out. it's a very cathartic time...

I think you should wait it out, but remember that you felt this way very strongly and it's something to really analyze when you are feeling a little better. Can you afford to be a SAHM?

Re: some advice

have faith, if you want to ttc
then ttc it will happen at the right time and if you do not have a job you will find one, maybe PT you can tutor or something? there is always a solution
I am waiting till 30.5 to TTC

ETA: Meanwhile if you can you and DH should start a nest egg now so while you are at home if you get preggo right away you have some extra cash

Re: some advice

My goodness..how things change in such a short time...after I posted this...I came across a 'paid' volunteer job...($10K stipend for the YEAR AND $5K toward tuition)

I spoke with the guy and we both feel I am a good match...i just have to go through the application process...

this way my time off...isn't REALLY time off on my resume...

(and they offer health benefits and day care - if by any chance DH loses his)

I'm taking this as something good...when one door closes (rejection letter) - another door opens

maybe you guys will see me here soon as a ligitamate board user...

Wow yabbobay - who knew
Opportunity is always around the corner.........

Good luck w/whatever you decide.

I think that as long as you're open and honest and ready for anything, and you and DH can handle it, then follow your heart

Re: some advice

Erica,

Everyone has good advice and I agree. But I will say that if you are ready to TTC, then go for it. I am a firm believer that things will happen as they are meant to be, so the baby and finding a job will fall into place and you will be able to work everything out. Sounds as if you are ready, so why wait? You never know what's in store until you try.

Re: some advice

I think if you truly want to finish school then you should do that before TTC- but you need to do what is best for you and DH, not us. I think interviewing while pregnant is super tough.

I am really happy about your new position. I hope it brings you tons of good opportunities.

Re: some advice

Sometimes when I just get fed up at work or school or when I'm so confused with what I want to do with my career, I think it might just be a good time to start to TTC. But when I really sit and think about it, I am not ready. I suggest you take a long walk and really try to get in touch with your inner feelings and I think you'll figure out what you really want to do. I agree that it's super tough interviewing while pregnant or leave a new job for maternity leave ... but you need to do what is best for you. If you decide to TTC, then everything else will fall into place. I truly believe that.
