So after work last night my boss called me in for a meeting regarding my proposed promotion. All of this happened because he was planning on firing the person above me. He made that decision on Thursday after he spoke with his business parter (my other boss). He sat me down and offered me the position. I was so excited and I thought all my prayers were answered regarding our money problems.
Well last night I thought it was all going to happen and that he had spoken with his partner and was going to throw out a salary figure for us to negotiate. Well that is not what happened at all. He told me he and his partner have changed their minds and they are not going to fire the girl above me. So in essence he (they) offered me a promotion and now they are taking it back. I seriously can't believe this even happened and I have never dealt with such unprofessionalism in all my life. I am heart broken and I feel very betrayed. So FH started to look for new jobs for me last night and I will be starting the application process tonight when I get home from work. I am so upset, I can't believe they would get my hopes up like that and then renege. Any words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated...sorry this was so long.

I feel your pain sweetie. That was a crappy thing for them to do. What field are you in?
I am a paralegal, but I am really looking to get out of the legal field. I was a communications/interpersonal relations/psych major in college. So I am trying to apply for HR/PR positions. I know it will be hard since I have no working experience in those fields. But my education paired with my legal experience and dealing with clients and high stress matters on a daily basis, make me a good candidate. I just have to pray that someone takes a chance on me!

Okay i didn't see this before- I had thought u still wanted to be a paralegal. But I have someone else at that company that might have HR work. Ill FM you his email address.

I'm really sorry they did that to you. You're right it is extremely unprofessional. One, they told someone they would give them a promotion, and two they told an employee they were planning on firing another worker.
Thats just outright wrong. Talk to HR. Open your mouth, thats just not right.

That totally stinks & it was extremely unprofessional for them to ask you before actually speaking with the other girl. I mean now u know they wanted to fire her & then they decided not to & in a professional enviorment the employees are never supposed to know about another persons job security. Thats ridiculous! Im so sorry & I hope you find something thats worth while. Exactly what do you do?
