Some good news....some bad news...

Some good news....some bad news...

First, my good news....my OB said with MUCH certainty that I DID, in fact, ovulate this month.

Now, the bad news....I am doing horribly on my low carb/PCOS diet, and I gained about 4 lbs. in the last 5 weeks!

At this rate, I don't know if Paul will actually ever have a sibling!

The good news is GREAT!

Don't stress about the diet. Everyone has times when their will power is low. You'' be motivated again, and you'll do great!

oh GREAT news Claud! I think it's great news anyway...I'd rather hear you are ovulating than to hear that you were able to turn down a plate of pasta!

You'll get on track with that diet . Be patient with yourself.

Claud that is such great news

Don't stress the dieting part, you need to take it one step at a time

Re: Some good news....some bad news...

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the support. However, I should stipulate...the ovulation WAS medically induced, since I have been taking Glucophage/Metformin for 2 months to treat insulin resistance - which is the reason for my hormonal imbalance.

I asked the doctor if the ovulation meant I could stop the Metformin, and she said no b/c the Metformin is THE REASON for the ovulation. Unless I drop A TON of weight (we're talking about 85 lbs. or so) I'm not going to ovulate without meds.

So, it's good news in a way....but, I have a LONG road ahead! I really HATE being fat...I which I had more willpower!

I hate hearing you call yourself fat because you are NOT. You are a beautiful women Claud

Michele I appreciate support to stick to my diet, but I can't lie to myself either...that doesn't help me I am fat...in fact, obese is the correct medical term (BMI and height/weight ratio). But, I am trying to fix this temporary state I'm in...

Claud did you ever try weight watchers? I lost over 65lbs on it.

Re: Some good news....some bad news...

I was going to ask how does weight affect ovulation, but you just answered. I think you can do whatever you set your mind to. Remember start with small steps. Set yourself some attainable goals and I know you will be successful.

Re: Some good news....some bad news...

Shamma, you are right...when I say 85 lbs...that's for me to be at my ideal body weight - which I have BARELY EVER been in my entire adult life, so that's not really a realistic goal, is it? If I *force* myself to be more realistic, than I really should lose about 65-70 lbs. That doesn't seem like I big difference, but if I got down to that weight, I'd be happier with myself and it would be healthier for me.

To answer your question further - excessive body fat does effect your estrogen levels, as well as other hormones like insulin, FSH (folicle stimulating hormone) and LH (luteinizing hormone) - which you are learning by reading TCOYF - can effect your ovulation each month. These are my problems.

Stacey - I tried WW back when I was very tiny and working out like crazy. I thought it would help me break a plateau, and it did not...I hated counting points. The scale consistently said I was gaining each week, b/c the strength training I was doing was increasing my muscle mass.

But, I just found out that my insurance will pay for a nutritionist, so I am going to explore that avenue in order to help myself!

Re: Some good news....some bad news...

i was about to tell you to try a nutritionist, I had visited a nutritionist and she help tremoudously with planning meals and eating right, I was about 21 then, and yes thank goodness Insurance covers these things.

The funny thing is when you mention about the FSH (folicle stimulating hormone) and LH (luteinizing hormone), I said, I know what those do Oh my I feel so knowledgeable about my body. I am loving it.

Claud 85 lbs in one shot is not realistic, saying I am going to start eating right, 15 lbs by Christmas and go from there. That I think is attainable and you can do it. All the best. Please let us know how it is all going.

No pix of Paul lately, I miss his smile

Re: Some good news....some bad news...

Claud, good news about the ovulation!! Congrats!

I am so with you on the weight loss issue. I have spent most of my life fighting and I still can't win. Up, down, up down!! It is so frustrating . I agree with you about WW. The counting points part is a royal pain as well as time consuming. I think that a nutritionist is the best way to go. She should be able to work with you to come up with a sensible eating plan that works within your life where you can lose 1-2 lbs a week. Set small goals for yourself and make sure you reward yourself too!! Not with food of course! But set your goal at 5 or 10 lbs and when you hit it, buy yourself something, or get a manicure and pedicure. Losing weight is tough work and you deserve a reward each time you succeed!!

You will get plenty of support from the LIW ladies I have no doubt!! Now if only I could follow my own advice!!!
