So our invites went out a few weeks ago and FH and I really struggled with the list b/c our place only holds 250. My parents are paying and they really wanted to keep it at 200, but the lowest we could get the list down to was 258! Anyway, we had to invite single people without dates and really pick and choose our guests. FH's parents have friends who were married and now divorced who they haven't seen or spoken to in a really long time. Every so often they'll run into them. It was ever since these people split up years ago that everyone lost touch. Normally they would be invited to the wedding, but considering they don't really talk to my FIL's anymore and with our trying to slim the list down, we decided to only invite her - not him and not their kids. Very stupid idea. We should have invited all of them or none of them. FH gets a facebook message from this woman's daughter asking him if we need her and her father's addresses since they didn't get invitations and her mother did. The nerve!! Who does that?? And her mom called FMIL and asked her the same thing and asked if I had a shower. So awkward and weird. Don't people understand how expensive weddings are??? And when you don't talk to someone anymore why would you invite them to your wedding??

Re: Some people are so rude!
Weddings do certainly bring out the rude in people. From not returning RSVPs to someone who I specifically told we aren't having kids at the wedding, and then since her DH can't make she is now bringing her 4 year old, people just don't seem to get it. I would just tell her that your at your maximum capacity at the RH and unfortunately you can't extend your guest list.

What will be the end result, they wont talk to you? They dont talk to you or FMIL anyway?
Tell them you cant invite them. period.

I agree! Personally I would explain all that you just explained to us. Just say that you are at your limit with the invites... and you picked her because she still talks to the FIL's on occasion but since you are at maximun capacity for the place you booked.... so you can't invite the whole family. If she is being so rude/blunt to ask that... then I say go at it straight up with the truth! No use lying or trying to fumble over your words or sugar coat anything. Just be honest. You have a valid reason.
And to answer your question... NOPE NO ONE seems to know how expensive weddings are!!! I find that even people who are in the mist of planning AND even more sad the people who recently got married... seem to forget quickly!!! It's odd!! Not everyone... but there's a good amount of people that really should know better and don't!!

Re: Some people are so rude!
honestly, I would just play it stupid ask for their address and send them an invitation. In the end it's not worth it. This is just my opinion though.
