Just needed to vent a little bit on what happened this weekend.I was at a friends xmas/candle party this weekend & a close friend of the hostess who I know but don't see or talk to unless I am with our mutual friend was there. She recently got engaged in Sept. When my friend announced to them that I recently got engaged everyone congratulated me & asked to see the ring. I ABSOLUTELY love my ring bc FH desgined it all my himself & went to great lengths to have the perfect diamond put in it. The mutual friend proceeds to ask me what size diamond my er was. I personally find that really tacky to ask. I tell her & she says outloud to everyone that hers was so & so carats & thinks that anything less than a certain carat isn't really worth it. Well guess who's ring was 'less than a certain carat'? I was fuming and thought that I would crack my wine glass right in my hand from the rage that was building up inside me. I don't think she realized how stuck up she sounded bc she continued to talk as if nothing rude was ever said. I simply told her that bigger is NOT necessarily better..and walked away. I hate that there are people (not the first time that I have heard that comment) who think that your er NEEDS to be at least a certain carat for it to be worth anything otherwise why bother??? Sorry just needed to vent

Re: Some people (bit long)
Dont worry about them but if someone said that to me i think i would blow a gasket. It doesnt matter the size or how perfect it is. It matters who gives it to you and how commited you are to each other. Obviously she wanted some attention and im sure she looked stupid for doing this.

You're a better person than I! I think I would have 'accidently' tripped on the rug and spilled my drink on her!

Re: Some people (bit long)
I always say my marriage is not based on the size of my ring or how big my pocket is. Some people are just really shallow and it is sad.

Re: Some people (bit long)
That is outright rude! It definately made her look like a very insecure person.I believe that quality counts a lot more than size. I would rather have a sparlking small diamond that a yellow, cracked big one!

Im so sorry she said that!! I hate people like that! Material things are not important, why are people like that always competing with everyone...oh yeah i know because their lives suck and they think money is everything!!

I probably would have smacked her senseless. Give me her name and address so I can do that.

Re: Some people (bit long)
I've always found that those brides that are the most obsessed about the size of the ring are usually the least concerned about the quality of the relationship.
I happened to be a cocktail party last Friday with many couples married 40 plus years, there wasn't a lot of 'bling-bling'. J-LO married three times, a lot of bling-bling.
I, too, love my ring because that is what FH picked out for me and I think about all of the insane clients he had to deal with to save the money to buy it.

Re: Some people (bit long)
i agree - some people have a lot of nerve! men agonize a lot over the purchase of an e-ring. i can't believe that people comment on size and things like that! we all love our rings and it's not just what they look like, it's the thought and love that goes into them that is so important!

Re: Some people (bit long)
I think it's fine for people to have a certain idea of what size or quality they want for themselves, but it's just outright rude to ever try to put someone else down! Just because someone doesn't feel the same way as you do doesn't make them wrong. I would have been so angry if I were in your shoes. My FSIL tries to do stuff like that to me all the time, so I can totally relate. The bottom line is, that for whatever reason, they are the ones that are jealous and insecure and they think putting others down will make them feel better about themselves. People like that really need to grow up.

LAME!!
Look at it this way: She is insecure, clueless and a total Biotch. Count your blessings you are who you are. I would not want to be her with her big ring and loser personality!!

Re: Some people (bit long)
i was actually so mad when i first read this i had to walk away and calm down! i could feel the wine glass crunching in my hand too because i've been in similar situations. girl, you did the right thing by being curt and walking away, leaving that biatch to live her material, shallow life. i agree with the other girls, its one thing to have an idea of what you like and desire a certain look for a ring or whatever its another thing to put people down and hurt feelings by being so rude. well look at your BEAUTIFUL ring from your loving FH and just smile knowing you got the best ring ever because its from YOUR guy!

Re: Some people (bit long)
that would have pissed me off too.
Recently after I got engaged I was getting my nails done- and one of the girls who worked in the salon asked me how many carats my ring was!!
I went back there- it was close to my work at the time, so it was where I got my manisures- and the same freakin girl asked me again.. I never went back there! So bloody rude!

Re: Some people (bit long)
so, this begs the question -- what's the right answer when someone asks you 'how big is your ring'?
The next time I'm asked, I think I'll try responding, 'I don't know. It was a gift from FH. Don't you think it's just perfect on me?'

Re: Some people (bit long)
you know what, i'd have been LIVID.... the good thing is, she made a total a*s of herself... and anyway, i find that when people make comments like that, they tend to be unhappy in their own lives and/or just jealous of you!
