Some Thoughts on Inviting Guests With/Without Dates...

I know this is a huge topic of controversy and I just wanted to give my two cents on this since I am done with guest lists, RSVP's and all of that. I was initially worried that we wouldn't be able to afford to invite everyone with guests (those who weren't in relationships) but we ended up doing it because it just seemed the right thing to do. I will tell you guys that about half of those we invited with guests chose not to bring them - I guess they didn't want to spend the money on bringing someone either just to have a date. I will also say that quite a few people called to express their gratitude at being invited with a guest. In one friends words - 'No one ever invites me with a guest because I don't have a boyfriend and I really appreciate it.' At the end of the day, with all the $$$ that is being spent anyway, we wanted our guests to enjoy themselves.

I agree with you 100%. It's hard for someone to show up to an event and not really know anyone. Even if it's 'just a friend' I rather them bring somoene...

I always felt like inviting singles with guests was the right thing to do. I felt like they were adults and should be able to decide whether or not they wanted to bring someone. It worked out for us too...most didn't bring dates, but were happy we gave them the option.

I agree! The reception is mostly for the guests so I never quite understood not making a provision for a guest so they can have the best time. I would rather pay for someone's date and see two people have a great time then to see my friend sitting there feeling blah because they are alone by my choice.

I think it was very nice of your friends to express their gratitude!

i agree completely..everyone will have the option to bring a guest..i on the other hand understand how if they aren't in a serious relationship wouldn't want to spend the money to bring a guest..you have a better time sometimes alone too...at least they have the option and they aren't told they can't bring someone..

I agree with you! If I were single and invited to a wedding I would really appreciate being invited with a guest too.

my experience was exactly the same as mrswask. people who weren't seriously dating anyone didn't bring a date, but several people were happy to have the option.

The funny thing is , we are inviting peopelwith guest, but if i was invited with guest & wan't in a realtionship, I probably wouldn't bring anyone.

But it's nice to be asked!

I agree! Friends of ours invited all our close friends without a guest (unless they were dating someone) and everyone was ticked off. First, they didn't tell anyone and just sent the invites.... but they also didn't wite the names on the inside envelopes so everyone was not sure... So everyone started asking them. I doubt any of my friends would have brought someone really, but its the thought the counts and they were kinda insulted!!

I'm glad to hear that so many people didn't bring a guest though-- it will cut back my numbers a little! :)

I can't wait to hear about you CLM wedding!!

I was just about to post the same thing! So many of our single guests are not bringing guests, and we might not even make our minimum. But I know everyone appreciated it, and I wouldn't have done it any other way.
