Correct me if I'm wrong, but why in God's name would you put a $600.00 croc pot on your list?
not to mention:
$125 candle sticks
$500.00 vaccuum
$300.00 tea pot (really?!)
$475.00 silverware set (not fine china set)
ummmmmmmm.....am I missing something?!
I think I'll just get her a giftcard....

Re: Someone elses registry rant....
You actually answered your own question without realizing
My friend is getting married a month before me and did the same thing. She didn't want to register because ahe and FH already live together. What she did was register for very expensive items, figuring that no one would buy them. She also registered for a ton of gift cards. She hopes no one will buy anything other than the gift cards so she can use them to buy what she has on the registry for 10% off after their wedding.
That's why my friend did it, but lots of couples do that just for the 10% off after the wedding.
Her shower is in a couple of weeks - I'm curious to see if her plan worked. I know I got her the gift card LOL

I bet they did it so they don't get anything!
Although we had a friend with an insane registry and she wonders why she didn't get full sets of anything

Haha! I have to say that I have some ridiculous things on my registry too. FH and I already live together as well. I think I need to change some things on there. Thanks for reminding me.

I definitely think its crazy when people register with all crazy expensive items. I mostly registers for reasonably price items but I also register for a handful of very expensive things like a Dyson vacuum since I didn't register for any china.

Re: Someone elses registry rant....
to me a registry is almost a wish list, and ill put things on there, that I wouldnt necessarily spend money on myself, but would love for someone else to buy for me
but $125 candle sticks is a it much

My FH put a 46' LCD TV on ours ... He heard a rumor that you get some serious discounts post-wedding on registry items not purchased. Maybe these people did the same?

Re: Someone elses registry rant....
hmmm i have a few expensive things on there
like my kitchen aid mixer food processor
and my china of course, which includes 200 dollar gravy boat, and other overpriced accessories to go with it
a registry is a wish list, so there may be some people who are willing to buy an expensive thing or go in as a group
alsoooooo, you get a discount on items that arent purchased after the wedding, so it cant hurt to add them on
i def get it tho, a friend of mine had like 500 dollar vases and bowls on her registry and 300 dollar salt and pepper shakers
eh, you only get to be a bride once, let her register for whatever she wants, doesnt mean you have to buy it

I have a KitchenAid mixer on mine too ... I figured if anything, my girlfriends at work can each pitch in to get that for me, we're always baking for holidays and each other's birthdays.

Re: Someone elses registry rant....
We have very expensive items on both registries. I don't really feel bad about it, to be honest.
First off, its expected and understood that the really pricey items are going to be purchased by the parents. FIL's already bought us over $900 worth of gifts off our registry, including the Calphalon pots and pans, the Nambe spice rack, and other items that were really expensive, that they probably assumed no one else would buy.
It's our wedding, and as someone pointed out, a registry is, for lack of a better term, a 'wish list' of items that you want but just have not purchased for yourself.
I have a $420 Dyson Vacuum, Vera Wang china, plus all the ridiculous add-ons for it, a $270 KitchenAid mixer, a $160 set of mixing bowls from Williams Sonoma...etc.
Honestly, the cheapest item on my registry is a pink Cuisinart hand mixer for $49.99 and the reason its on there is because I feel that $50 is the bare minimum that is appropriate to spend for a shower gift.
The way I feel about it, I would never go to someone's shower and spend under $50, so I expect the same in return.
Besides, everyone knows you get at least 10% off the items that don't get bought, so who knows, maybe we'll end up getting the stuff that people don't buy!

Re: Someone elses registry rant....
a gift card sounds like a good idea if she doesn't have anything reasonably priced on the registry!
i have a few pricey items on there too, like the other girls said... when we were registering in macys, we found an awesome coffee maker/grinder/thermal carafe that was on sale for about $100...when we got home and looked at the registry online, the reg price of the coffee maker was $270, which IMO was so i feel the same thing could have happened to your friend - sometimes things in macys go on ridiculous sales so it seems reasonable, but then the reg price is high

Yeah she doesn't have anything under $100.00. I mean I'm paying for my wedding and I'm not going to her shower..money's a little tight. Especially since we have four weddings to o to before ours.. I understand mixers and whatnot r expensive, their on mine too, but she's the type coughgolddiggercough. And gets whatever she wants so it's just annoying lol.

Re: Someone elses registry rant....
I have some pricey items. Our pots/pans set is $1000. I thought a few people might chip in for them. If not, we'll have a 20% discount after the wedding.
I had some things on there I did not expect to get (like my vera wang toasting flutes) which I did get. Sometimes it's nice to be aspirational, but don't forget, they'll have a lot of cash after the wedding and the savings is good.
Also, in my family people chip in a lot. For example, 3 people chipped in and did 3 place settings and 3 soup bowls, and another 3 chipped in and did 8 place settings of flatware. They could have easily chipped in for a $400 single item.

SHe doesn't have ANYTHING under $100? Ok, that's rude. I mean I guess you can do what you want, but registry etiquette dictates that you have things in all price ranges. Even if they really do just want the cash, they could just as easil;y return the gifts you got them and voila, they have a gift card they wanted instead of making you feel awkward because you can't afford a $300 gizmo

Wanna talk about ridiculous? FH put a 500ish lladro statue on our registry???? Pointless!!!!!!!! However - we did get all of our china, including the sugar and gravy bowls for the china - 400 - some of our ridiculous waterford china - and waterford silverware - our 600 kitchenaid - most of our caphalon stuff - a 200 dollar blender - ridiculus nambe vase and picture frames both over 150 - so people buy it....but I also included 20 dollar items 30, 40 etc for those who didn't want to spend....
