i got married in april and my shower was the last day of february, so it was pretty much a month beforehand.....and there was plenty of time in between the shower and the wedding . i say go with what her mother wants...after the holidays

My shower was only five weeks before the wedding- so January would be ok, in my opinion. You do lose a little of the element of surprise, because your friend will be like, 'Well, there are only 5/4/3 weeks till the wedding, so it must be soon'. But people may also be able to get good deals on gifts for her during post-holiday sales, so that may be good.

Well, is the shower a suprise?
I think Nov would be a great idea, but since she is the mother of the bride there is not much you can say. I know that I did not help a lot.
If the shower is a suprise I think that Nov would be great because the bride would have no idea. Jan to me is a little to close. I would like a shower months before because people don't have to spend so much so close JMO

do it early - late october early november before people get into thanksgiving mode waiting till january will be too rushed plus i am sure she will be busy that close to the wedding
