Hi Ladies, Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can do something different for the seating plan, rather then using place cards?? My girlfriend is doing a fairy tale book and I love the idea, but she's doing it and I want to try and be different. Anyone Creative???LOL

my brother and his fiance are doing chinese symbols insteaad of numbers, and instead of place card they got mini chiese food contains and filled them with after dinner mints and toothpicks. on the outside a sticker with the names and sybol for the table (he also wrote wht the symbol means so its eaiser to find)

With us, we are doing two favors of the same theme so we're using one favor as the placecards and it will complete the other favor that guest will see when they get to their table.
ETA: could u please elaborate on the fairy tale story, i'm a little confused!?! sounds really interesting though.

my sister used customizd shot glasses with her and her DH 's name she put hershey kisses inside and attached she had small card with the guests name on it ...

Depeding on the time you get married I have seen votive candles lit with velum paper over the candle holder with the info on it. It looks so pretty lit up.
Also depending on your colors or season you can do fruit. For Instance if your colors are Red you can buy a bunch of Red Apples and maybe print out green leaf looking things with the info on it and attatch them to a toothpick and stick it in the apple.
Instead of place cards I have seen just a seating chart in a frame in ABC order so all people need to do is look up there name.

In reply to Goldie's question: My GF is using a company called fairytale memories(i think that's the name, lol) and they are going to customize an antique looking book(pretty big) with the burnt looking paper and I think as the cover of the book are going to be all the names of the guests in Alphabetical order and the table they will be seated at. I have never heard of anyone doing this, but it sounds so pretty. I am excited to see how it turns out. If I find an example I will post it:)

we have a tiny football theme going (he's obsessed). so our table numbers are actually players from his favorite football team and our placecards are going to be jerseys from that player and i think we are gonna set them up on sod to look like a field

A seating scroll? Or a seating chart in a frame? I also love unexpected holders for the placecards, like apples, little toys, etc.

My sis is using a large scroll...it will be displayed right outside of the reception room at FLoral terrace...it's beautiful, and totally goes with the style of her hall...

I wanted to do this for my wedding, although many people said that with 275 guests it might become a pain for people to find their names, since there would be TOO many on each tree. I was trying to figure out a way where it wouldn't be that bad with 275 guests, so thought to do even more trees.
TOo bad i ran out of time and the last 2 weeks were so insane before the wedding that i didnt get to do this. It was 1 thing i had to let go of so i dont drive myself completely nuts.
Its beautiful though

That is beautiful, the tree with the hanging names, but what would something like that cost or is it a DIY project. I am trying to minimize the DIY project bc I have no patience, lol. Is there a website where I can find it??? Thank you!!!!

it is a diy project, a girl came up with this on her own completely so no site does this.
its not that bad though bc you buy the trees like that. You just have to wrap the base in satin with the ribbon and rhinestone which is not hard and doesnt take long, maybe someone can help you. Then you buy the hanging crystals by the strand and all you do is attach it in the middle of a placecard and shut the bottom of the placecard so it looks like the crystals are hanging from it. Also of course getting the names on the placecards.
I dont have the greatest patience but i did a couple of DIY projects and usually its alot easier than it looks.
Thank you for all that info. I am definitely going to look into it and see if I can tackle this DIY project. Probably one of many, lol.

it will be fine. At first its intimidating but once you start and you see that its not as difficult as you thought then you will feel alot more confident. Plus think how proud you'll feel that you did it on your own. Also, ask your mom or bm's or anyone you know for help, maybe one of them is crafty.
