Sometimes I hate being a professional!

Sometimes I hate being a professional!

This weekend totally sucks. I have to take Continuing Legal Education courses every year for the rest of my natural born life in order to remain an attorney. This weekend, I'm taking 16 credits over 2 days. I had to get up at 6:00 this morning and will have to again tomorrow. I sat all damn day listening to the most boring people talk about the most boring things. I am so tired, and I have yet another day of it tomorrow and then back to work again on Monday.

Of course, DF's away this weekend, so the one weekend I have to do whatever I want whenever I want however I want, I have to be stuck in this stupid CLE. Bleh. Seven years of school wasn't enough????

OK, vent over. I'm just tired, cranky, and wishing I had chosen a different career today.

Can you not do CLE courses over the internet?
I thought www.law.com had something like that.

I am sorry - I guess that's one of the prices you have to pay for the profession.

Not that I'm aware of. I know it all goes with being an attorney, but it was just SO boring and I am SO tired and really needed this weekend to recharge.

After you complete the first two years of CLE credits, you can complete them via online or through video/audio cassettes. So much easier!!!
I hated going though, glad I'm done with it.

Yeah, FI sometimes uses the cassette tapes or online videos.

That is one good (and sad) thing about being a psychologist: no continuing ed classes are needed.

My CE is required in person..

I have no degree but a few professional designations so I have to sit in class. Worse one of those designations has only 6 options to choose from.. and I usually end up taking the SAME class every year because its the only one available in the area.. talk about boring. Worse.. the instructors now recongize me.. 'Oh look it's goofy' -my nickname for class, all brokers are goofy-

B O R I N G!

I hear you, I am supposed to have 50 CME credits each year and I have to take a 5 hour malpractice course on my day off! At least I love what I do.

Re: Sometimes I hate being a professional!

Oh my god!!! 50 credits a year? Sheesh!

We had our second day of the course today and the last guy was supposed to speak on stress management. Basically, he told us that lawyers are the highest paid of any profession, but the most unhappy as well as most likely to suffer from depression, to develop a drug or alcohol addiction, or to commit suicide.

He also said that pessimistic people fare worse in the world, but are better attorneys, while optimists are worse attorneys. So basically, we're supposed to find a way to lower our stress level while remaining pessimistic enough to be good attorneys, but we're going to die young anyway because we induce more of our own stress than anyone else.

I'm more stressed after listening to this guy than I was before!
