somewhat marriage related (you should read Xelindrya)

a friend wants to know if she needs to get a marriage license 'for religious purposes'. She got married outside the church last year and wants to be married in a church next year. she was told by the pastor that she may need to get another license and that they have issued them at courthouses or town halls but he wasn't sure if they are still done.

i'm going to call the bronx courthouse now but sometimes getting through to them is a horror.

In case anyone needs to know the answer is Yes. You have to go together, 2 forms of ID plus your first marriage certificate (the original not a copy).

I called the Hempstead Town Clerk's office.

Ok Im lost.

I got married 'outside of church' I was married by the a clerk at Town Hall. We got our marriage license then went back 2 weeks later and said the 'I do' parts. We asked that they leave out the ring exchange part.

A few months later we met up with the pastor guy who's gonna marry us. Through most of the visit he assumed we were getting married at his church. We told him pretty fast that we were already 'married' he had no problem with that. One less thing to sign. heh We aren't getting married 'in the church' but I dont think it make a difference either way.

We have only ONE marriage certificate.

When you get a marriage license they ask if you've been married before, if you say yes, they won't give you another license unless you present divorce decree.

Maybe Im confused. Her church told her she 'may' have to get a new license to get married 'in the church'?
