somewhat wedding related but i'd rather get your opinions so please bare with me

hi girls

so here's the situation. my BIL is getting married in a month in New Mexico. we're shelling out ALOT of $$$$ to go to it (air fare, hotel, rental car, etc). .this is a problem since DH has been out of work for a month. in addition, it's a cash bar and now i've just been informed that we are expected to help set up and clean up the RH for the wedding. adding to my frustration is that they are now considering having a shower for the BTB.

my question is this...would it be a major no, no if i 'passed down' my 'soon to be' hoodie as her shower gift?

my reasons:
1. i'll never wear it again.
2. we're broke.
3. she didn't get me anything (lame on my part for listing i know. but it still pizzez me off)
4. all along she wasn't having one. now she is and it's 2 days before the wedding...seems a little suspicious to me. (looking for gifts).

this whole wedding irritates me, so i know i'm not being rational about it. normally i would just buy a gift, but i'm having a tough time with this one.

any thoughts?

you can tell me to shut up and stop being a selfish biotch...i'll understand.

no but i would make no pretenses about it being passed on. heck i only wore it the day of the wedding.

yeah, you know something. I don't think I can get on board with the passing down as a gift.

I can get on board with the passing down in addition to a 'smaller' gift in an effort to boost your overall gift giving status.

In NY it would prob be taken as tacky, but I think in your case it could be viewed as something really sweet. If she's having the shower only 2 days before the wedding and you're already shelling out $$$ AND you have to help clean up the RH, then I think she has to understand that an additional gift is going to be difficult esp with your DH out of work. I think she would think it was really nice of you to give her your hoodie, it's like you're welcoming her into the family. I think I'd also get her a card and stick maybe like $20 in it too tho so she can get something small off the registry.

do as you wish...it's incredibly insane to expect a shower 2 days before your wedding.

Wow. That sounds expensively annoying.

Does she know that you wore it? Because to give something that sounds like it was embroidered - you probably wouldn't give that with tags on it anyway.

I'd like to ride the 'tacky in New York' train and say pass it down along side something tiny.

agreed. Or if you have a random shower gift that you didn't register for and thus cannot return (i have a boat load), you can give that too.

I am tacky. I don't care. I gave my friend a pair of Bride flipflops I got at my shower that didn't fit me.

good thought. unfortunately, the flights are booked. we're making a bit of a vacation out of it and going down there for a week before the wedding.

yes, it's extremely annoying...

i'm not sure if she knows i wore it, but i figured i'd say something in the card...
