MY Question is: What songs are you ladies not having played because you or your fh hate it? Have you had anyone fight you on the songs you do not want played?
I love my fmil a lot she is very sweet and caring. I enjoy talking to her and just spending time with her. So please don't think I hate her cause I don't she just sometimes gets involved in things she shouldn't which I know she means well. My fh and I did our DJ forms last night cause they were due and his mother kept bugging us to put a song on the list cause his 35 year old sister wanted it. I said no cause I hated the song and so did my fh but my fmil and fsil won't let it go. I put the song on the do not play list a while ago cause I hate the song. The DJ said when we first made up the contract that he will not play anything anyone requests that is on the do not play list and he will not even come and ask us cause he knows the day of the wedding we shouldn't be bothered with this stuff. Fmil has been fighting with me and fh about this issue since last night and is going to keep pushing this issue until we give in.I don't get why some people won't let the bride and groom enjoy there wedding planning with out adding stress onto it. Wedding planning is stressful enough. I just wish they would stay out of our wedding planning my family hasn't tried to tell us what to do my family says do what you want and get what you want it is your day it is about you and your fh and the day is all yours. Thank God I have a good DJ that will listen to whatever I want to be played and what I don't want to be played. Sorry for the long vent needed to get it out. Wedding planning is not easy and brings the worst out in people. Other then that I am enjoying my wedding planning. happy planning

Re: Somtimes I don't get it.......
I had some songs that I insisted be put on the do not play list, but it was my hang up.. To be perfectly honest the reception went so fast, I can't even name 5 songs that played so if any of my 'do not play' songs had played I probably wouldn't have even noticed. Not sure it's worth fighting with your in-laws... I'm sure there will be other things you'll have different opinions on..

Just a quick question... Are you and your FH paying for the DJ? If so, and they won't quit with the song...just pull the 'IF you want it that bad, pay for the DJ' card!

My fh, I and my parents are paying for our wedding and everything that goes with the wedding. My fmil is paying for our honeymoon. I am grateful for her paying for our honeymoon. It was very thoughtful of her to pay for that. But everything else my fh,I and my parents are paying for. My sister is also helping out a little. Which she doesn't have to but she wants to.

So funny that you brought this up. I thought I was insane for having a do NOT play list! I have a few things I do not want played. So far nobody has given me grief about it other then FH LOL

my FMIL wanted me to have my DJ play my FBIL & SIL wedding song (there wedding was June 07) I said no way this is our wedding - beside I really dont like there song anyways-
I told my DJ there was no way I wanted it played even if anyone wanted to pay him to play it]
he totally understood!!!

Its your wedding day don't stress over it. Let them have their song. Just tell the DJ to play it when you are out of the room. It's not worth the hassle and stress that you are going through.

Re: Somtimes I don't get it.......
Fh and I decided not to give into them we are going to just not play the song that they want once you give into them once you will be giving into them with a ton of other stuff. We decided we are going to stick together and not have the DJ play there song this is our wedding when they have a party they can play whatever song they want and how ever many times they want it played but this is our wedding day and we are playing the songs we want and not playing the songs we don't want that is why they are on the do not play list cause fh and I do not like the songs we put on that list. They are just going to have to get over it. It is our day and the day is about my fh and I and nothing is going to wreck that not even my fmil and my fsil. The DJ is going to step in and not play what is on our do not play list he gave his word and it is in the contract. I trust this DJ he is great and very helpful to make things less stressful for me.

If you hate the song that much (and i totally know the feeling, there's a VERY popular song I cant stand and it makes me want to claw my eyes out every time I hear it) put it on your dont play list. Why should you be bothered by petty stuff at yuor wedding?

I had answer you on the other board. Let her have one group dance and not Cotton Eye Joe. She will be happy. I do have three pages of Do Not Play List but one group dance is not going to kill you. That can be the time to talk to your guess or go the bathroom. This is a time for both of you to look about and see the party from the other side. It will get better.

Is 3 minutes of your life really worth this hassle?
I'm sorry, but I think do not play lists are crazy and if a silly song can ruin your entire day than you need to refocus. To me family is more important than music. Yes it is your day, but the idea is to celebrate with everyone and for everyone to have a good time. JMO.

Re: Somtimes I don't get it.......
i'm not gonna have a do not play list- but i just dont want ANY group songs played- no cotton eyed joe, no ymca, no chicken dance, no marcarna.....so i dont think its crazy- its your day! i was at a wedding where requests were not even allowed! so do whatever you want, i dont think they'll pick a fight with you on your wedding day- they can listen to their song when they get home.
