My son had his 4 month visit today and we were told to start him on cereal. The doc suggested morning and night.... and not giving a bottle right after, but more like 2 hours after the cereal. I thought I had read that many people give their baby the formula either right before or right after, not 2 hours later. What do you do for your baby? Do you give cereal along with formula or spread it out? Thanks!

Re: Son starting cereal.... a question.
I give my daughter cereal and then a bottle. I don't know why your dr would tell you not to give a bottle with it. I think its a matter of preference how you do it but I wonder why your dr told you NO bottle with cereal. (Maybe its because he will be getting formula or BM anyway in the cereal.)

Re: Son starting cereal.... a question.
My son won't eat it immediately before or after the bottle - I give it to him between bottle feedings. Same with the veggies - the dr. told us to start him on veggies once a day at lunchtime, and cereal morning and night. This does not work out too well....We usually give him the veggies, which he likes...but the cereal is a struggle - he does not like to eat it. So, I will try and give it to him about an hour to 2 hours after his bottle - that usually works.

Re: Son starting cereal.... a question.
I give my bottles first, but I think thats bc they are breast milk and getting that in them is the priority...she usually takes a 6 ounce bottle and then fruit or veggies, usually mixed with oatmeal or rice cereal. (Try mixing your rice cereal with a little banana or peaches, he may like it more that way). Good luck!

Re: Son starting cereal.... a question.
I always follow Jenna's cereal feeding with formula-actually thats what my ped said to do. I make a 7 oz bottle-mix 1 oz of it with her cereal then when she's done with the cereal I offer her the rest of the 6 oz. Sometimes she finishes it, sometimes she'll leave an ounce or two.
