Song Play List
How are you going about putting together a list of play/don't play songs for the wedding? I mean, I hired the DJ based on the opinion that he will do a great job - I don't want to micromanage and plan out the entire night, but I'm having a hard time coming up with songs to put on the Play list besides the obvious First/Last Dance, etc...how has anyone gone about this? Thanks much! Lee

Song Play List
Most DJ's have a song list they give you and you check off the songs/artists that you would like to hear, and then they have a suggested list of songs for intro, cake cutting, etc. Then they usually have a place for comments/suggestions/and notes for what you want and absolutely don't want.

Song Play List
Lee, You shouldn`t feel as though you need to micromanage, but you definitely want to make suggestions or at least tell your dj what type of music you like. I`m sure you wouldn`t want him playing all techno if you`re strictly into pop rock. If you have any special songs that aren`t being used for first/last dance, etc., put them on your 'play' list. We had three songs we couldn`t choose from for our first dance, so we`re having two dedications, one to groom from bride and one to bride from groom, which will use the other two songs we love. There are also special songs I know my parents would love to hear ... my dad loves oldies music, so 'Run Around Sue' from Dion and the Belmonts will be on the play list, and my mom loves Louie Armstrong`s 'Kiss to Build a Dream On.' You make whatever suggestions you want, let your dj figure out the rest. But let him know your preferences, as well as your dislikes. You won`t have fun if he`s not playing the style of music you, your husband and your guests will love.

Song Play List
Aside from a few specific songs, we're giving general guidelines. No Rap or Funk, No 90's boy bands, No Britney Spears, etc. We also plan to give a list of groups we like, just so they can have an idea of our musical tastes, ie: Beatles, B-52's, Ozzy, Elvis Costello. There may not be a good dance tune, but it will give them an understanding of what our tastes are and a good DJ should be able to work with that. You might also tell them what radio stations you generally listen to - another good way for them to get an idea of your musical taste. Also let them know the age range of your guests. There will be very few under the age of 35 at our wedding, and many will be 60 and above.

Song Play List-Jali
I agree with you Elizabeth...I plan on telling my DJ no boy bands, No Brittney...and definatly NO RAP!! arghhhhh....I am trying to have an adult reception and I know that none of my guests are into the rap scene!! LOL So if that seems to some people that we as brides are micromanaging....then so be it!! Its our day and we will choose what we want and dont want to hear!! Lisa

Song Play List - Elizabeth
Thanks Elizabeth - I think what you said is what I will be trying to do...we are also using Spin Around Sound and I trust Tom to get the feel for what my DF and I like to hear but at the same time leave room for requests -- I'm glad to hear all went well with them.

Song Play List - Jali
Let's see - why would anyone make an important list like play/do not play songs??? Because it's their day, and if they are like me they are paying a RIDICULOUS amount of money to have the best day of their lives and don't want to get stuck listening to any songs they hate. Not that people can't make requests, but why should I suffer? It's my party and I'll dance to what I want to! And my marriage is a celebration with or without the guests - who are welcome to 'sit it out' if they don't like the music...Leave the condescending posts off the board.

Why the flaming??
Jali, I cannot understand how your very first post on the board is a nasty comment to a fellow bride. Everyone here has his or her own opion and a right to voice it but there is a right and wrong way of doing it. You are a nasty person and properly not even a bride so why don’t you go and find another board to post on if you think our standards on this one is not up to yours. Good Luck to you...I really do hope that you have friends. Lisarose

Song Play List: Jali
In respone to this comment made by Jali 'If you were spending a RIDICULOUS amount of money on your wedding I highly doubt you would have hired a DJ.', I am spending a what some people might consider a ridiculous amount of money on MY wedding and I'm having a DJ. Why? Because in MY opinion, a DJ is more fun. I don't see where the correlation between DJ/money comes in. We, as brides (and grooms too, of course!), are entitled to have whatever entertainment and mood at our party that we choose. What this has to do with money is beyond me, and why you felt the need to bring it up is equally irrelevant.

Re: Who's Jali and what happened?
See what happens when you don't check the board on a daily basis I missed it. Who's Jali and what happened to infuriate you all so? End the mystery for me thanks.

Re: Who`s Jali and what happened?
I'm sorry I missed her return posts - but I get the basic idea...all I know is we are spending tons of money and having a DJ because we think it is more fun for us -- this is not a slight to anyone having a band - God Bless! Just a personal preference...Geez..all I wanted was ideas on the song list!! 39 days to go and who needs unsupportive, snotty comments? I get enough from the bridesmaids - I don't need them from someone who has never even posted on this board!
