Song too long?

I was talking to my mom this morning and we were talking about our first dance song. When I got her to listen to the song, she said she loved it. Now she says she doesn't like it because she thinks it's too long.........

So it got me thinking.......how long is your first dance song? If it's longer than usual, are you worried that it will bother your guests?

Our song is 'True Companion' by Marc Cohn and it's about 4 1/2 minutes long........ is that too long?? We both LOVE this song but would hate for our guests to be sitting there WAITING for it to end ..........

First off...Your song choice is awesome...I love it! Really! If you are worried about it being too long, Your DJ/MC can cut it...Don't worry and don't change the song!!

I love your song!!! I agree that it is a little long, but if you would like to make it a little shorter, I agree with cmrcmr that it can be shortened. Just be sure that they don't cut out your favorite verses.

Or, you can just savor every second of it and do your first dance for 4 1/2 minutes!!

Sometimes the DJ/Band will invite the guests to join the couple towards the end of the song ... or sometimes just the bridal party ...

its a beautiful song though, and I wouldn't change it!

i agree. just have the DJ, about 2 1/2-to 3 min. into the song, ask that all couples join them on the dance floor. usually they'll say something like

'At this time, (insert names here), would like for all couples to join them on the dance floor, remember ppl, the more of you who are dancing with them, that means the more years they will have a wonderful loving marriage!'

if you love the song---use it.

I don't think you have anything to worry about....like everyone said, the DJ/Band invites family, guests, etc. It's a beautiful song and they will all enjoy it!

I wondered the same thing about my song cuz I think it runs well over 4 minutes...but who cares! It's our song!!

That's why the shorter of the two songs ('You Had Me From Hello') will be our spotlight dance...that's a quickie! Can't expect people to just stand there and watch us dance alone for too long!

Its a beautiful song. If you worry that its too long, perhaps after 3 minutes, the band/DJ can invite everyone to dance with you.

We are doing an actual countdown for ours. Everyone will come up and dance with us....then then after a few minutes, the band will ask anyone married less than 5 yrs. to sit down. Then, anyone married less than 10 years to sit down. If anyone married more than 20 yrs. is still up there (there are several), they will continue to dance with us. Finally, the longest married couple (50+ yrs) will be there with us....just us and them predicting an omen of a long healthy marraige!!!!!

Thanks everyone for the great advice! I'll talk to my DJ and see what he thinks is the best way to do this. I really do love the song and I dont' really want to loose too much from it, but I'll see what happens.,.......
