Songs to NOT play at Reception

Songs to NOT play at Reception

What songs, or singers/bands are you putting on your 'don't play' list for your DJ/band?

I'm banning gangsta rap, Creed, Celine Dion, and Shakira (am I the only one who thinks her voice is like nails across a caulk board?).

Some songs I'm banning:
I Will Survive
YMCA
that stupid 'girlfriend' song by Avril Lavinge

am I missing any horrible songs? Let me know your choices!

Re: Songs to NOT play at Reception

oh our list is a mile long!!!

basically, EVERY song you've ever heard at a wedding before (and likely heard at 3+ prior weddings) is BANNED.

I'm soooo bored of the same-old same-old. No 'last dance' as the last dance, no YMCA, no macarena, no twist and shout, no celine dion, no meatloaf, no 'who let the dogs out', no 'it's raining men', no rap, no country, no recent pop music, no ricky martin, no metal, no J Lo,

and for the love of all things sacred, NO Billy Idol MONY MONY! God I can't STAND that song!!!

What's left? alternative music, and a lot of really fab 70's and 80's songs we haven't heard in the last 20+ years

I'm banning that greese lightning song, justin timberlake, JLO, electric slide, that hay ya song from outcast.
I hate all that stuff. That's just me, I know some people like it.
My Dj has been DJing for years at all the 80s clubs I used to goto so we're on the same page about the music.

Absolutely NO 'We are family!' Seriously, my mother makes my sisters and I get up and dance with her to this song every time - She stands in the middle of the circle clapping her hands! It's really embarrassing!!! Also there will be NO cheesey line dancing music - electric slide, macarena, cha-cha slide, chicken dance, ect. And NO conga lines!!! I could go on and on.....

No group songs (although I sort of like the electric slide) plus no 80s disco, no rap, no reggaeton (my FH is Puerto Rican), no club music, no heavy metal or hard rock.

Re: Songs to NOT play at Reception

I didn't have a do not play list. I actually just gave the DJ about 5 songs that he HAD to play... and told him to make my guests happy and play whatever they wanted. I

I actually made him play the Electric Slide and the Cha Cha slide and Cotton Eyed Joe... those really packed out the dance floor! It was awesome!

Yeah... so I guess I was not an 'elegant' or 'classy' bride.. but we had a hella good time being cheesy!

Re: Songs to NOT play at Reception

I know some songs are soooo cheesy but i feel people really do dance to the group and line dancing because they know it. it gives people who dont normally dance a way to dance to something routine and with no quesses, if that makes sense. : ) I have my favorites and none of them include the 'typical' cheesy 'wedding' stuff BUT i want my guests to have a great time and they may not like my favorites plus my favorites are not necessarily danceables! my dj said he will play a little of everything and whatever my majority of guests seem to dance the most too he will play more of that. i like that idea : )

I will try to do music the majority of people like for the first half of the reception - and then the last hour or so have my fave dance music, whether it be r&b, dancehall, rock, whatever. I just want everyone out of their seats and partying with me. I'm leaving a lot of it in my DJ's hands!

Though, I am against 99% of group participation dances. FH wants the chicken dance LOL

The only song I would smack the DJ for playing at my reception would be 'The Chicken Noodle Soup' song. I hate it. I even hate the soda on the side. No droppin it like its hot.

No 'electric slide' type songs. I HATE doing those group dances & I can't imagine my friends and family allowing the bride to sit them out. So we decided to get rid of them.

LOL i was gonna say the SAME thing!! those 'corny' songs are what got people out dancing at our wedding! it was GREAT! i went to a wedding a few months after mine where the bride had given the DJ a song list and told him jsut to play the songs on it and nothing else... and people weren't dancing the whole time, because it was all HER taste in music, and she got upset that people werent dancing- i think you have to let the DJ do his job- they know what gets people out on the dance floor- and its ok to be a little cheesy

Re: Songs to NOT play at Reception

No rap, no way
No 'I Will Survive' (hello - we are celebrating a wedding )
No 'Last Dance'
No 'Chicken Dance'
No 'Macarena'
No JLo
No Christina
No Brittney
No Meatloaf
No Twist

Maybe the Electric Slide - it gets everyone dancing
same with ChaCha Slide
We are also doing the Stroll - it's an old line dance
Some disco music, (I admit to liking the BeeGees)
I want to dance and to have fun !
