your placecards are beautiful. I have read how you are making them, but I still have a few questions?
Did you print them or are you having them printed by a professional? Are those votive candle holders with gold trim....it looks that way. What type of paper are you using? Did you test to see if they get too hot....I did and after an hour....watch out! I want to do the same thing and just checking out what works the best, easiest and of course most beautiful. THanks for your help

Stef's bachlorette party was last night so I doubt she is even awake yet so I will answer what I can and bump this up for her.
I am doing the same placecandles. She is using a vellum paper and a laser printer- not inkjet printer. The votives are 2 for $1 on sale at Micheal's so read the flyers and wait for the sales- they are almost every month. There is no gold trim on them. Also, you have to use a tea-light candle, not votive inside the holders. Votives candles inside have a flame that is too high and gets too hot. A tea-light will not get hot and the flame will not be too high for guests to hold.

FYI- The glass votive candleholders are on sale @ Michaels for 3 for $1 !!! (I already have them and paid 2 for $ 1)

Also a 50 count of tealights are $ 1.97.

who will light the candles for you ladies? did you speak to your hall about setting it up & lighting?will one have to reach over the other to get their candle placecard? say if you do it in rows, reach to the 3rd row?

jenn- if you do a search, there is an old thread with alot more info about the details. but i think the answer was that they used tealights and not votive candles, so the flame was low enough that it would not burn someone??I could be wrong, but i think thats it.

I think all the questions have been answered right?

Im using double sided tape to adhere the vellum wrap around the candle. I have done several tests about the heat and it only gets warm even after 4 hours burning. Ive already told my site and they are fine with it - they will lit them before people walk into the reception room.

Thanks for the compliments about my site. Yes I did it myself using the Homestead software.

Here is what my prototype looks like:


When I say vellum wrap I mean that I am printing out the names & table #s on a piece of vellum paper and then cutting it out in a shape that will warp around the candle.

I am doing them all this weekend (eek!) so I will post a photo when Im done.

I reccommend checking with your reception place before you do anything. I brought a sample to my place and I was told it was not a good idea

Ive spoken to girls who have done this and they have had no issues. Ive also told my reception site and the catering manager (who usually is sort of rude to me) thought it was a great idea. Why did your reception site say it wasn't a good idea?

She used real votive candles instead of tea lights so the flames are higher than mine will be.

Denise at the Hamlet also does not like the idea but I do, so I am doing it. Things to consider:
-Where are your placecards set up and when. You do not want someone having to hold it during the cocktail hour. Mine will be set-up AFTER the cocktail hour and guests will get them at that time.
-Use a font that people can read easily.
-Use only tea lights, not votive candles inside them

And if you want to do this, tell your reception hall that you want to. It is their job to help us figure out how to make our stuff work during the wedding.

I just called the Coral House.
They set up the place cards at the cocktail hour.
I asked if it can be done before the guests enter the room so they will not be walking around with lit candles as you suggested.
My hall does allow them & they will accomodate me to do them right beofre the enter the reception room.

how did you do the names and table #'s? I know you did it on vellum and printed them, but what program did you use? how did you space them?

are you ladies doing one per couple or one per guest?
did you glue the paper on?

You can use any program that uses text like MS Word or a image editing software. The trick is to set up a template first so you know how many 'labels' will fit on a page.

Im doing one per couple.

Im attaching the wrap with double sided tape but I may use spray adhesive. To be decided this weekend.
