So.. as i've posted before. I havent eaten any junk food in about 2 months and since the beginning of the year i've been working out. The past 2 months, really kicking it up. I've been waking up at 5:30 in the morning to do the treadmill and pilates. But when i went to the doctor for the flu, I got weighed and haven't lost ANYTHING!! I weighed myself again since the doctor (which was a lil over a week ago) and again NOTHING!!. The doctor had mentioned that he wants me to go to get blood work done because he worries about young women and thyroid problems. Since he mentioned that i researched it and I think i seriously have the symptoms if you call them for an underactive thryoid. I've been eating healthy and exercising, again NOT losing weight, my hair is really thin, and i'm always cold. Soo i am realy thinking of making an appointment with an endrocronologist this week. I have mixed feelings about it all. I mean i dont want to be sick, but I'm kinda hoping thats the case so i know its something thats been out of my control and not that that i've been doing something wrong this whole time.

Re: Sooo Frustrated!!!
I had a similar scare last year. All of a sudden a huge circular patch of hair fell out of my hair, alopecia (sp?) I worried that I also had thyroid problems. Turned out to be stress!

Re: Sooo Frustrated!!!
to me it sounds like it might be a thyroid problem especially with thinning hair...My cousin has this, and also my moms best friend had this and had the surgery to remove it bc hers was real bad, she let it go too long and you can see the lump in her neck and she was having alot of difficulty eating and breathing...Thats why you cant let it go...Thyroid problems unfortunately will give you the hardest time losing any weight...there are two extremes with thyroids, either you get too skinny but this doesnt happen too often, most people wont be able to lose weight.
Go get tests done and take care of it early on before it gets bad, you dont want to have to go through what my mothers friend did. They will do a biopsy to test you to see if you do have a thyroid...If you have any questions let me know...Dont worry this can be taken care of, dont stress out about it

Re: Sooo Frustrated!!!
Thanks Denise. FH's mother actually has a thyroid problem because she's so skinny so she is on medication for that. So FH actually mentioned that i may have that problem because he sees that i'm eating healthy and working out like crazy and not losing anything. I mean i know muscle weighs more than fat, but my clothes aren't any loser at all!!

i mean its a possibility not a definite but if your doctor also said it too then it might be it, dont know. My moms friend had it for years and couldn't lose weight at all...after she had it done and started eating healthy she lost the weight right away.

I know its not a definite. So i'm not assuming that it is the problem. If it ends up that i dont have that problem, i'm saving money to do the bridal boot camp at New York Sports Club.

Re: Sooo Frustrated!!!
Thyroid problems affect more than just your weight. You thyroid controls your metabolism which is basically how your body functions. So if your thyroid is working properly then everything else won't be able to work properly including your immune system. You are cold because you body can't regulate the temperature. Your hair is thin because you probably aren't breaking down the proteins. It's much much more than weight loss. Even though it slooooooows weight loss it affects your health in so many ways. It's not meant to scare you but even if your thyroid is functioning on the slower side, you may not be treated but you can reffered to a nutritionist who will be able to help you.

Re: Sooo Frustrated!!!
My little sister is in the same boat as you. Shes been working out and eating well for the past few months and hasnt been seeing the results that she should considering how hard shes been working at it. So she went to an endocrinologist (sp?) and it turned out that it was because of her thyroid. So I think its definitely worth checking out! Keep up what youve been doing though cause even if youre not loosing weight, im sure youre healthier than what you were before. Hopefully the doctor can give you some answers! Good luck!!

Definitely keep up with all the hard work you've been doing. And (knock on wood) if there is a thyroid problem there are ways to treat it. Atleast you're being proactive about things . I hope everything will be ok.

Re: Sooo Frustrated!!!
hypothyroidism isnt that uncommon in young women. i think most women have had similiar symtpoms like depression, weight gain, always cold, thin hair, dry skin, problems going to the bathroom, tired, and end up getting bloodwork to see if they have low thryoid hormone levels. the good thing is that even if you have hypothyroidism, it can be treated medically and isnt life threatening as long as you keep up with your meds and doctors appointments so no matter what, you will be ok. on a lighter note, if you need meds, you will start to lose a lot of weight and have energy and who doesnt want that! Dont worry, youll be fine.

Re: Sooo Frustrated!!!
Thanks Girls!! I knew I could come here for support and additional information! You guys rock!!
I am still going to continue with what i've been doing anyway. I was actually thinking about it. My sister asked what i was going to have for dinner. And because i was getting soo frustrated, I was like hmm i could really go for some french fries and a cheeseburger from Wendys... but the thought of all that grease kinda skeeved me out after the inital tempation. So I have the baked fries in the oven right now.. so Im still going to stick to my healthier lifestyle anyways.
I've had slow metabolism ever since i was about 8. Prior to that i was soo skinny! But then I had three operations, and they say that anesthesia can slow down your metabolism. But i thought i jumped that hurdle once i lost all that weight, but since then i havent lost anything, and again, since i know im doing everything i'm supposed to its really starting to get to me.
Its funny you mentioned the dry skin... FH and I do 'scratchies' where he scratches/rubs my legs while i do the same to his back. He mentioned the other day how dry my legs were, I mean you could see the dead skin cells it was so bad!!\
I got a number to an endrocronologist in the area, so I am definitely going to give her a call tomorrow. Hopefully i can see her sometime this week and have a definitive answer! If thats not the problem, im going to cough up the money to get a personal trainer!!!!
But again! I really appreciate you guys!!!

Re: Sooo Frustrated!!!
i hope you find out soon and everything works out okay
thyroid problems run in my family and my family is so anti-medicine they let it ruin their lives but it is very easily taken care of with meds so no worries ( if that is what it turns out to be)

Re: Sooo Frustrated!!!
I had a similar problem -- not as extreme, but always being cold, hair falling out, etc... and after a couple tests, my doctor determined that I have poor circulation and put me on a couple Rx -- including baby aspirin of all things!
I feel much better now so I hope it is something as mild as mine was.

Re: Sooo Frustrated!!!
Don't be frustrated... muscle weighs more than fat, so sometimes when we start working out, our weight doesn't drop.
ETA: My mom has a thyroid problem, and as soon as it was diagnosed (when she was 19) and fixed, she lost and gained weight normally. Definitely get it checked out, but don't stress!
