sooo i am sooooo sick to my stomach!!!! what to do?

So this is my niece Rio. I hope you can see her...
anyway she is the LOVE of my life well besides Jeff. anyway this is a long one..
my brother and his now wife had her as a surprise, honestly at the time i was upset because their relationship was really toxic.. but she had the baby and I am happy about that..
BUT my sister in law is sick this is really tough for me because I like her but I know she is sick. She is severly anorexic like BAD.. and I am worried about Rio. I don't want her in that environment it is not healthy for a 2 year old. I already think she is kind of behind where she should be. I think her disease has made her bipolar too

I just want to take my niece away. It was hard enough not having my brother in the wedding because he does not see what is going on..

just a vent because i know there is nothing i can do about it......thanks for listening I feel like I should be posting on LI families....

Oh wow that is pretty sad, I am so sorry you are dealing with this, I really dont know what to say, hopefully your brother will see that his wife needs help and his daughter should not be around that kind of environment, she needs to be healthy for her daughter, I think more people in your family should be involved (not sure if they already are) maybe they need more pressure. I can't believe I posted this! she refuses to see one

This is so heartbreaking!!!

Kids don't pick who they have as parents. It's also so sad b/c your brother is not doing anything to help the situation. By him ignoring it, he could be enabling her to keep with her disease.


Have you guys ever thought of doing an intervention?

I'm trying to understand what you mean by this:
'severly anorexic like BAD' you you know she is for sure?
Does she see anyone (therapist) for it, or in counseling?
Has she been hospitalized?
Does your brother acknowledge her sickness?
Does SHE acknowledge her sickness?
Sorry I'm asking so many questions b/c I know I'm really thin and ppl think I'm anorexic but I'm not at all. FYI its really annoying how ppl make assumptions/comments to me especially my Mom that I won't be able to have children ....ect ect.
So I'm sorry if I'm coming off defensive, I just want to make sure she is really 'sick' to begin with.

Also your brother has to be 110% on board with whatever you guys decide. If he keeps enabling her, she'll never get better. i.e. if you guys do an intervention he has to stand his ground and not cave in.

If Rio has to stay with you in the interim so be it. Health Rio & your SIL) should be the utmost concern of your husband. Clearly it's already a huge concern with you, so that's an excellent start.

Yea it''s really hard because if she doesn't want to help herself there's not much anyone can do. I briefly saw a post about an intervention and I agree. Some take it really hard and get really angry that everyone is 'ganging up on them' but that's just because they don't want to face the truth. She needs to hear it from those who love her and her child. Ask her if she is happy and if she says no....explain that children pck up on EVERYTHING and her negativity will seriously affect her daughter. Tough love suck$ but neccessary.

It is ok no worries.
she has not been diagnosed by a doctor i don't think?? but i know illness runs in her family. She shows the signs of it because I battled with a form of an eating disorder myself and was in treatment. She will not see a therepist because she said ' doctors are dumb' My brother acknowledges it to my mom, sister and I but doesn't want to rock the boat with her. He is not making it easier. I just want her to get help.

I think it's normal for your brother not to want to start anything but he has to. He's probably afraid to say anything b/c he loves her and just wants her to be happy. Anyway he's gotta face the facts, if she continues he will lose her to this disease,,,and his little girl will have no Mommy. Don't put it off any longer, everything has to stop, there is nothing more important than getting her better. You have to insist on having an intervention ASAP and if your brother doesn't participate that do it yourself w/your mom and anyone else that can. Because seriously you want her around to see her little girl grow up and to take care of her, she'll thank you for it down the line.
