Sooooo.... Now What?!

Hi girls! Just got engaged 2 weeks ago and am new to this site! I'm pretty much the first out of my close friends to get engaged so I have no idea what I'm supposed to do next!!!

My parents are having his parents over this Sunday for a dinner, and we are hoping to set the engagement party for the second weekend in January (my parents are throwing it for us). My guestlist for the engagement party is about 75 ppl. Does anyone have any recommendations of venue? My dad wants to do Parkside in Corona bc he knows the owner, but I feel like it will be too cramped and I want to have a DJ (which I will pay for). I am pretty open to anyplace in Queens (no Howard Beach--too far and too much traffic) or Nassau. Any recommendations would be great!

We are going to the bridal showcase at Jericho Terrace next week and also checking out Larkfield Manor next week too.

What are we supposed to do next??? Haha! Am I doing this correctly??

Congrats and welcome.. u will find this board very useful!!

we had ours at Sans Souci in sea cliff and it was great. Pics in my album

*****Also recommend the Metropolitan in Glen Cove. They have a smaller room downstairs called the club that is perfect and u can have a dj too. The food and service is excellent there!!!!!!

First I would like to welcome you to LIW. You will find so many ladies here willing to help you!

Sorry I really can't help you in regards to an engagement party since my engagement party was a surprise (FH proposed at his sisters house in front of about 40 guests on labor day weekend). Either way, good luck and happy planning.

Congrats and Welcome!!!

You are doing just fine! There's no WRONG way to do it! Relax and breathe because you do have 2 years until the date you are looking for. I would book my RH and ceremony site (if different from RH) and then take my time and really research the other vendors you're interested in. You have lots of time so meet with a lot of each vendor. And book it in the order of which it's most important to you! If you don't care what limo company you use but you have a must-have photographer, book the photog first and leave the limos for the end!

I wish I could help you with the e-party, but we didn't really have one.

And I may be biased, but you'll love JT! Enjoy the showcase! I'd say I'll see you there, but that's our first night of pre-cana! Anywho, we're here to help so anything you need, feel free to ask! And happy planning!

Congrats on your engagement! That's so exciting! We had our e-party at The Club at The Metropolitan in Glen Cove as well! It was PERFECT! They were great on price and the food was great! We had a 3 hour cocktail party on a Sunday afternoon, 4:30-7:30 pm.

Re: Sooooo.... Now What?!

Thanks for all the feedback ladies! My fiance and I really like the fall for a wedding date (late Sept-early Nov). He wants to do Fall 2010 but I'm thinking thinking that Fall 2010 will come so soon that I might feel rushed planning everything...this is why I'm thinking Fall 2011 but nothing is set in stone yet. I guess we'll see what happens!

I've heard good things about the Metropolitan in Glen Cove! I'm just nervous that it's a little far for us for the E-Party ,God forbid is snows (like I said we want the E-Party to be this January). We live in Whitestone Queens and our friends and families are primarily from Queens/Bronx area (some are in Nassau but not a ton). Ugh who knew there were so many things to consider when planning all this stuff!!!

Re: Sooooo.... Now What?!

A lot of RH's are already booked for Fall 2010. My first choice was the Riviera but when I called in August to check availability for Oct 8,9 and 10 of next year, they were already booked.

I picked Leonards because my family lives in Queens and FH's family lives in Nassau County, so its very convenient to the LIE, and all the major highways, plus easily accessible by mass transit from Flushing and Whitestone areas.

I didnt have an engagement party, there really is no 'wrong' way to do things..There is a lot to planning a wedding, you may want to start by looking at Bridal magazines and reading boards like the Knot and others mentioned on LIW. Also, attending a few bridal shows will get you exposed to a myriad of vendors that are out there. Just keep a notebook handy and take lots of notes. The more informed your decisions, the more you may save $$ and come out ahead on wedding day. 2011 is a perfect time to start planning because you can lock in 2009 prices with many vendors (should you choose to book now).

Good luck and welcome!

I can't really help on a venue since I am most familiar with Suffolk but I wanted to say 'welcome to LIW'. The boards are great and full of lots of info!

Re: Sooooo.... Now What?!

It's definitely doable to pull a wedding together in a year, but you have to be flexible! Especially with the date. 10/10/10 isn't gonna fly! That's one of the most sought after dates in 2010, so chances are that's out the window. If you're flexible with your dates and vendors, you should be fine. But if you don't want to feel rushed, go for 2011. You'll have more time to plan, save, and wallow in engaged bliss.
