Sorry guys - stressed out bride needs more help

Okay so I'll avoid long stories. So my fiancee's parents have decided to pull out of the wedding financially and physically. There is no way we can downsize and afford everything and not only that, I do not want a half *tail wedding. So we decided to postpone it, but him and I are going to go have a small ceremony and get married on our own on June 3rd (our one year anniversary). We are not going to let them stop this marriage - they may stop the show but not the marriage!

With all that nonsense said - the wonderful Huntington Townhouse was very nasty with us when we tried to postpone it even though we arre still giving them business. Steven Silver (who is VERY nasty and VERY unsympathetic) said we would lose 50% (so that means $6000 for us) if we postponed. Not only that, we still have a balance of $2000. He said before he even considers postponing the wedding, we have to pay that balance. And obviously if we cancel, we lose it all AND we still have to pay him $2000.

So - with all this nastiness - I do not know what is more worth it at this point. Lose $6000 and try to put on a new wedding there next year? Or lose $12K (mainly from a loan my fiancee and iI got) and find a new location with people that will be more flexible? The wedding will probably be much smaller now that his family is pulling out anyways.

What are your thoughts?

You should check out the Suffolk Coutny Law. It says something to the effect of if you cancel your wedding at least 6 monts before the actual date, you are entitled to all of you money back..I believe. Maybe they keep the deposit or something. It's been posted on here a million times. M
They have SOME NERVE treating you like that considering you are still giving them business. SOME PEOPLE have no care or concern for others! And why did your in-laws 'pull out'?? That's crazy!!!

what do you honestly feel?

Wow. Just another reason that this website is VALUABLE to all bride-to-bes. Another bride was married there and to this day is still traumatized. I can totally see them being that way to you as when I visited there to consider it, they wouldn't stop at anything to get us to book....they even lowered the $/head AND lowered the minimum on all the rooms by like 75 people just to pull us in. We were NOT buying it. Suddenly since we're obviously NOT interested as the room we want is way over our chance of a min. and we refuse to book it and pay for 80 people we didn't have, the price drops per head (by a lot) and the minimum was reduced so that we only paid for like 20 people who didn't exist. BS. I am sooooooo sorry. Is there any way that you can scrounge up the $2000 and just be super careful on everything else? I'd hate to hear you lost $6000 all b/c of $2000 and FH's parents no longer helping.
