Ladies... I've decided that it's time to go back on my birth control bills. Don't need a surprise before my wedding. I had been taking the Ortho Evra Patch but felt that I had my monthly friend more than I liked. Please recommend your pill and why you like or dislike it. I have an appt this thursday and wanted some general idea of what to ask for. Thanks

i loved the patch but my doc made me switch b/c of the health risks associated with it......i was disappointed bc i LOVED the patch even though it was making me fat......the week i was off the patch i would literally drop 5 lbs.....and the minute i'd put it back on i'd gain it right back......now i take aviane.....its ok.....its low dose.....my hardest problem is remembering to take it!
i dont know if this will help- but i set the alarm on my phone- so it goes off daily and reminds me to take it- i always have my phone with me so it makes it sooo much easier

I take Loestrin FE 1.5/30. I highly recommend this b/c not only are there no babies and no more cramps, but I actually LOST weight when I went on it!

THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I USED TO DO! I'm on the patch now, which I also hate, my periods last over a week...but, they were no better on any of the 7 or so different pills I tried...AND I still have horrible cramps...I have to see my Dr. for my annual, and was thinking about asking for the ring, but I just did a search, and all the posts I saw, said they experienced weight gain...I really can't risk that! I'm planning on taking off the last patch two weeks before my wedding, and then, come what may, anyway...so, I guess I'll stick with it...it'll only be another five months!!

I am on Yasmin, have been for a few years, and I love it. I used to have very bad cramps - so bad that I used to take 1100 mg of the prescription version of aleve every 4 hours, terrible for my stomach - but with the yasmin I have only slight cramps if any, and my period is very light, lasting 3-4 days. It's great!

LoEstrin
Pros - i am no longer psychotic like i was on Desogen no real PMS symptoms i get AF for ONE real day and ONE fake day sometimes i skip months! no AF on weekends! i lost weight and i think its bc of the switch!
Cons - you may skip months. . .so its scary the first time it happens but now i just make sure i have a bunch of tests and i wait a week then test i get cramps for like one hour on the Wednesday . . . that is my first day . . . its seriously like a really bad hour then it goes away and i know AF is coming
I would do it for the weight loss!

Re: Sorry to be personal...
I take Loestrin...I've been on so many pills before this one and this is the only one where I've had no side effects. The first month I had some spotting (which is normal) but I'm never bloated anymore, my cramps are very minimal. I used to get cramps so bad that it would make me so nauseous, I actually got stomach sick once. (But i have other issues going on as well) But now I get my period every month, and I only get it for like 1.5 days...its the best! Oh and it's like $50 a month. Its insane..Why do I bother paying insurance!

Re: Sorry to be personal...
We have gotten wayyyy more personal than that lol The only birth control thathas agreed with my body is Yaz. EVerything else gave me nausea and mood swings. And my Aunt Flo only comes for about 3-4 days.

I was on ortho tri-cyclen for a few years, and had some side effects. 1) It straightened my curly hair. 2) I went up a bra size... at 19. (This one wasn't so bad).
Now I take Avaine. It's the generic form of Alesse-28, which was also great for me. It's cheaper than tri-cyclen, my periods are 3 days, and i get really hungry the day before my period, but have otherwise escaped PMS,

Re: Sorry to be personal...
What's the difference between Yasmin and Yaz? I hated Yasmin...Cramps were awful, and my period lasted forever... when I wasn't on BC my periods were really heavy, and horrible cramps...but, they only lasted about three and a half days... then...the shot...no cramps...but didn't stop bleeding for a year straight...and gained 30lbs...
I don't even know which pills I've been on, but they all had me getting my period on the Thursday or Friday, before the Sunday where I stopped taking active pills...same thing with the patch!!! I can't wait to go off completely and just let myself get pregnant!!

I'm not on the pill right now but i'm going back on ortho tri cyclin. I was on that for years. It made me have barely any cramps and periods were only like 4 days.

Thanks ladies for all your advise. So I believe the winners are Yaz and Loestrin. I'll have to do my research to figure out which one I'll like best. You are all the Best!!!!

I'm on and have been on Ortho Cept for the past 5 years. I'm not a fan and want to get off it soon. JMO. I have heard Yasmin is one of the best ones to be on.

Re: Sorry to be personal...
I just tried searching the websites and none of them are working. A bit wierd. I guess I'll have to try again sooner. By the way do any of you now which ones are covered by insurance. I know that if I get in a large quantity I get a discount. Mail in prescription.
