Ladies... I've decided that it's time to go back on my birth control bills. Don't need a surprise before my wedding. I had been taking the Ortho Evra Patch but felt that I had my monthly friend more than I liked. Please recommend your pill and why you like or dislike it. I have an appt this thursday and wanted some general idea of what to ask for. Thanks

I was on the patch and was switched to ortho tri cyclin too. My body responds pretty well to it and I notice my period is really short ie 2 days.

A couple of my friends are on the ring and they love it! Some use Yasmin and say it gives them no side effects.

Oh my god only two days !!!!! That's great - It wouldn't matter to me if I got it on my honeymoon if it only lasted two days.

The ring scares me and that's all I'll say about that with out being graphic.

Pros - i am no longer psychotic like i was on Desogen no real PMS symptoms i get AF for ONE real day and ONE fake day sometimes i skip months! no AF on weekends! i lost weight and i think its bc of the switch!
Cons - you may skip months. . .so its scary the first time it happens but now i just make sure i have a bunch of tests and i wait a week then test i get cramps for like one hour on the Wednesday . . . that is my first day . . . its seriously like a really bad hour then it goes away and i know AF is coming

I gained 30 lbs on the shot too!!!! I almost STRANGLED my gyno, when she said to me, after I was on it for a year, (and NEVER stopped spotting btw...) 'the literature says you can gain up to 8 lbs over the course of a year...but, I've found it to be closer to 25 or 30...' REALLY???? YOU DON'T THINK THIS INFORMATION WOULD HAVE BEEN USEFUL BEFORE PUTTING ME ON THIS DAMN SHOT!??? I was so angry...I had just lost 70lbs...2years prior...it tookd me almost three years to get that 30lbs back off...

I was on Orthro tricyclin lo forever, but constantly had a long period and major cramps for the first two days. My doctor swithed me to Yaz and I love it (except it's $68 a month). my period is only about 3-4 days and super light with no cramps

I suggest the Nuvaring. I have been on it since January and I love it. No side effects, low hormones. My menstrual cycle did not change it stay the same. I truly recommend it

I'm using Othro-Tri Cyclen Lo. I love it. Been on it for about 5 years now.
Cons - Some minor back pain the week before I get my period. - I gained a little weight but I think it's all in my mind.
Pros - Cheaper for me than others - Very very light period - Dont get much cramps at all - good for pimples.
I guess it all depends on your body. Some people handle medicine's better than others. Your best bet is to let your gyn recommend one and see how it goes from there. If it doesnt help you then try switching to something

But all in all you would say that it's a good pill. I'm looking for something that will lessen my what seems like forever period. between the spotting etc. I took Ortho Trycyclen a long time agao but it made me sick every time I took the first couple of pills.

Re: Sorry to be personal...
I am on Yasmine and LOVE IT!!! If my doctor forced me to change it, i'd switch docs!!!
I used to have very bad cramps and horrible periods - so much so that they eventually found out that I have ovarian cysts - explaining some of it. I took the Yasmine and have been almost pain free & my periods are VERY short. Normally 4 days - sometimes fewer!

Re: Sorry to be personal...
i loved the patch but my doc made me switch b/c of the health risks associated with it......i was disappointed bc i LOVED the patch even though it was making me fat......the week i was off the patch i would literally drop 5 lbs.....and the minute i'd put it back on i'd gain it right back......now i take aviane.....its ok.....its low dose.....my hardest problem is remembering to take it!
