I am not saying I don’t want kids. I just don’t want kids until after we walk the aisle. I know we are legally married already and we both feel like this year will be our one-year anniversary. I’ve always said I wanted a child within the first two years of marriage. The thing is, I want to FIT into my wedding gown.
So Im on the old fashioned tried and true Orthocept. Been on it since college at about 18. So 10 years with the same pill. My OBGYN says it’s better to stay with the same since I’ve been on it for so long continuously.
Now I’ve HEARD that your chances of getting pregnant are less likely with the pill. I’ve also heard from my current OBGYN I have been on Ortho so long I could probably stop and my system would STILL act like it was on the pill. I hear this and honestly I want a second opinion from you ladies.
I find it hard to believe you can’t get pregnant on the pill. I also doubt my system is as tricked as she seems to believe. I say this because I can easily move my period whenever I want. I just start my pack early or stop the pack early and four days later Im there. I’ve used this loophole over the years to plan out vacations and such. Now she says (to my face) that it’s impossible for me to do that. I find it funny since I KNOW I did that even though she can say I can’t.
She WON’T tell me when the most likely days to get pregnant are when on the pill. But she implies there are days that are higher probability than others. I haven’t seen her since I got engaged/married.
So.. Normally I could care less, but now I’m so freaked out I am afraid I’ll get pregnant. It means my intimate life stressful. We WANT kids. Really we do. (I want two boys) Just not NOW.
Questions are: Does anyone else take Orthocept and find they can manipulate the cycle? Does anyone know if there is such a magic window? Any suggestions on NOT getting pregnant while on the pill? (other than the obvious) Shouldn’t my OBGYN just TELL ME? Should I just find another OBGYN? Am I stressing over nothing? Hahaha
Thanks ladies.

Re: Sort of a T 'not' TC question..
I'd say definitely get another gyno just from the fact that you are not liking what she is saying to you. I would think your gyno would want to 'help' you and it seems like she isn't doing that!
I've read that it could take a month or up to years to get regular again off the pill, I've known people who got off, waited out the 2 months and got pregnant the next month after that and then I've known others that have been trying over a year.
I take Ortho Tricyclen and I took my last pill and won't continue...I am going to watch my cycle now and see if I go back to being regular (which I was 9 years ago when I first started taking it).
Hope this sort of helps!

Re: Sort of a T 'not' TC question..
I never took Orthocept -- I took a differnt pill-- but after being on it for like 7 years... I went off the night after my wedding and got pregnant on my honeymoon!!!!
My Dr. told me that for a lot of women, their most fertile tome is right after they stop the pill-- because you are ' regular'.
I have now been off the pill 2 years -- and cant get pregnant to save my life!! Go figure..Maybe Ill go on -- then off again ...LOL

If you go off the pill your body will NOT act as if you are still on it. The pill leaves your system quickly, that's why you have to take a pill every day. I can't believe your OB/GYN does not know you can manipulate your cycle with the pill. Why she does not you to know is beyond me. I would find a new doctor.

Get a new OB/GYN if you are not happy with her. I wasn't happy with my doctor and I switched. It's a pain but, I think it is worth it! I am so happy with my new doctor. YOu don't need unneccesary stress right now. You definetly need a professional second opinion.

If the pill works correctly, it prevents you from ovulating, which (obviously) prevents you from getting pregnant. The only way someone can get pregnant while on the pill is if it's not working... but I don't know which scenarios would make the pill less effective, like if being on it for so long helps you or hinders you (becoming immune to its effects). Your doctor should be able to answer that question and prescribe a stronger pill if you're concerned.
When I got off the pill my body went right back to normal. I've also heard some doctors say that it HELPS with getting pregnant, for women who are having trouble conceiving... they will put them back on the pill for a month and then tell them to try like crazy after the month is up. I've heard it works!
If you're having doubts about your gyno, there's probably a reason! Trust your instincts and look elsewhere.
Lots of luck to you!

There are several ways to get pregnant while on the pill:
1. Not taking the pill consistently. If you screw up the time you take it -- like, one day you take it at 5:00 pm, then next day you take it at 8:00 am, then 9:00 pm, etc -- in turn you are going to diminish the effectiveness. If you take it at the same time every day, it is 99% effective.
2. Missing a pill. If you miss a pill, especially during the ovulation time (think this is around day 11 or 12), and some spermies get in there watch out. It's sort of rare yet VERY possible.
3. Missing more than one pill. See above, and watch out even more! Sperm stays alive in your body for 5 days, but the egg dies after 24 hours. So you can figure it out form there... I'd use a condom as well if you miss more than one pill.

I knew there were some ways. Don't laugh but..........
1. I ALWAYS take the pill at 11pm. It's on Jim's alarm in his Clie (palm) 2. Never miss a pill. I get close when Jim is asleep, sick or forgets but normally that's when I remember (hence why I take it so late at night) 3. NEVER miss more than one (rare one) cause I got nuts. I get REALLY mean to Jim and all over his butt for that kind of slip up. It happened once when he simply forgot to pick up my pills. Started with him not noticing I was under 3 pills to begin with.
Ok explanation.
I used to skip every now and then. I happens. Plus the few times I purposely didnt take it to arrange my calendar. I used to throw out the left overs in the packs then one day I stopped doing that. I sort carried them over so I didnt have to freak out at the 7th green pill. So now adays I have like 2 weeks worth of pills left in my pack when Im done (just start on left over pack, when I get to the next empty slot I move to the newer pack just start on that date, so I always have 2 weeks in a pack). This helps me when remembering to buy my pack.
Now Jim: Ok here's my though processes.... I hope I can pass it on to any girls I have. Men have a d!ck. Women have the slot to stick it in. It takes two to tango and baby cant become a baby without BOTH.
Men don't take a pill WOMEN do. Men have condoms I'll give them that but that can be any time during any month at any hour, whenever the need 'arises'. The pill is EVERY day of EVERY month at a SPECIFIC hour wether you are getting any or not.
So... frankly men are the cause of why I take a pill (condom or not) so Men should be responsible for the upkeep of it.
Jim is repsonsible for the ordering and purchasing of my pill. He goes to the store and picks it up. He is repsonible for making sure I take it as well. Not that I resist or don't honestly try to myself as well, he is just the one who's responsible for making SURE i do.
Honestly this seems fair to me and he agrees. You can't have sex without being responsible. So if Jim forgets to give me a pill I take it first thing in the morning. If Jim doesnt pay attention to the pack and where I am before I run out, then I freak out and go nuts. Heaven forbid he forgets to renew the order.
My responsibilties. Making sure I have enough. Making sure I see the doctor and get checked up. Making sure the pharamacy has the order and is easiy distance for Jim to get to.

Yeah I used to feel bad about it..but Jim and I had a long talk and he actually agrees. He thinks men should be more aware of what a woman has to go through.
