Sort of depressed

Sort of depressed

We invited over 100 people to the wedding and our final count is only 66 (and that includes me and FH, his son and a babysitter, all people who obviously did not get an invite!). While I think it will be very nice to have a small wedding, part of me is a little depressed about it. The 66 even includes all of the B-listers that could come!

aw hun...you just have to remember that this is still going to be the bet day of your life and with less people it will be way more intimate and less people you have to schmooze with and more time with your new husband!!

But remember that you want to have the people you know and care for there and thats the most important thing.

I am just nervous that the day of we will have one or two people get sick or drop out, and then the tables are going to look really empty....

Crashing here but i had a very small wedding. We invited 65 and the final count the day of was 49. That included me and DH!

It was wonderfully being able to spend a lot of time with each of our guests and people told us after how nice it was to be part of such an intimate affair.

Enjoy your wedding! Even if it was just you, FH and a justice of the peace it would still be a wonderful day

Don't be depressed.. All the people that mean the most to you and that love you will be there! On your wedding day you are not going to notice if 66 people or 100 people are there.. you are only going to notice and remember how amazing it is to be celebrating such an awesome day with those closest to you!!

Now please save this and repost to me sometime in August when I post about being depressed over my final #.

Re: Sort of depressed

I heard stories about weddings where the bride and groom didn't get to spend time together during the reception because they had so many people to meet & greet/ thank.

With a smaller wedding, you can make your rounds quickly and have the majority of the time to spend with your DH laughing, dancing, eating, drinking and having a ball!

Also from a financial standpoint, wont you save $ ?

No worries you will have a wonderful day!!!!

Jsquared, I remember your posts from a just a week or two ago. I am sure we will both have fabulous weddings!

To one of the other above posters -- we don't really save money because we had a minimum we could not hit. I know Jsquared had the same issue. We have just emailed our RH contact about whether he can do anything for us.

Did people that you thought would come give reasons they couldn't?

I understand how that's a bummer. But I think in today's economy to get a babysitter, shell out $200 and maybe buy a new outfit, it's a little rough to attend weddings. At least you'll be with the people who are most important to you and you'll be able to have fun instead of having a big wedding where you're rushing to make sure you greet everyone. I'm jealous actually!

Some of them did, and of course they had good reasons. For example we invited another couple that we are friends with (at the time we ordered the invites we didn't even know she was pregnant yet) and it turns out her due date is only 3 days after our wedding! So of course they cannot come!

Others were weird -- I have a whole part of my family not coming and the excuses were ridiculous. 4 never even sent the RSVP, I had to call and harass them after they didn't return my mom's phone call.

And some gave excuses that they had to work the next day -- that is why the wedding is ending at 9pm, so everyone has time to get home!

I'm sorry, I know the economy is hard right now, and maybe I feel different b/c in MD, you don't get big cash gifts, but I feel like if it was a close friend or family member, I would go to the wedding and give a gift when I could. That is what I'd want my guests to do too. Maybe I'm weird.

We are almost 5 months out, and all these people are asking FH to invite them. I'm getting pissed b/c I know when it comes down to it they won't come. First we live in the Hamptons, my wedding is in Baltimore in the summer. Most of our friends work in the service or golf industry in the summer. They are not going to miss a weekend of tips. I mean our close friends will, but not accquantainces. That's fine, but stop saying, I better be invited and then laughing.

I completely agree with this... We practically have half the country invited to our wedding and I know I wont be able to enjoy any of it if I have to walk around and greet everyone all night!

You are going to have a GREAT time, no matter how many people show up so try to cheer up!!! The wedding is going to me amazing regardless!!

It's hard with the way the economy is and some people might not be able to afford it

Dont be depressed! This is going to be the happiest day of your life! The people who are going to be there are probably the ones you REALLY wanted there anyway, who would and are dropping anything to be there!!! Smile! You are almost there!

Yes it is Monday, it is Presidents Day (so it is like having the wedding on a Sunday of a normal weekend).
