Sort of Spinoff to allornil's Dad post - Did your FH's speak to your Fathers before proposing?

Original post by MissingLI

If so, do you know the story? How long before did they speak?

FH pulled my dad aside at my FH's birthday party and told him that he wanted to go out to breakfast soon because he wanted to talk him. My dad knew what it was about. When they went out FH asked for his blessing. My dad told him that he not only had his blessing but his gratitude for helping create such a happy life for me. 2 weeks later Cory proposed. When I called my Dad he let the cat out and told me what had happened.

Since my dad passed away when I was a teenager FH actually asked my mom (which I didn't know until about a week later)

I thought it was cute since we already are older, paying for our wedding ourselves and we have a child together

FH went to my house when he knew my mom and I would be out to talk to my Dad

When mom and I got home my Dad was too cute and had to tell my mom right away [which i found out after the fact]

FH told my dad it would happen soon and then FH did it the next night

FH asked my dad the day before he proposed! My father had a feeling he was coming over to ask permission to marry me so he put a sign on the door saying Go Away! and he was sitting at the kitchen table with all of our steak knives out!

LMAO!!!! what did your FH say?

yes he did... he actually asked my mom, dad, and both my grandmas before asking me, which I thought was so cute!

My aunt actually has a picture of FH showing my mom the ring for the first time and I thought it was so cute!

how adorable!!

FH asked Dad on Father's Day by giving him a card and writing it in a card. Then after my dad read the card, he asked him in person. My mom was there too and she said that it was the cutest thing EVER!

But then he waited until Christmas to ask me! That ring must not have been burning a hole in his pocket lol.

I am such a daddy little girl. So I told FH he HAS to answer my father for my hand. FH was like you’re the first G/F that I ever had to meet their father, He was nervous but I wouldn’t want it any other way. They met for breakfast (seem to be the choice of food for most of these stories LOL). My dad is a HUGE Yankee fan and FH is HUGE METs fan. FH wore a METs shirt when he went to ask my dad. My father goes “seriously, you are asking for my daughter hand in that SHIRT?!?!?” Hahanah Needless to say, my dad said yes but they abuse each other about baseball whenever they get a chance

i live in a 3 family house. my mom & dad live on the 1st floor and i live on the second.
in my living room, if my windows are open and my parent's windows are open, and people are talking really LOUD, then i can hear snippets of convo's every once in a blue.

so on Nov. 7 (a saturday)i went downstairs to visit my mom and i knew FH was on his way over. my mom's phone rings and i keep hearing her say 'ok' several times on the phone. then she tells me that i have to leave. i was like? what! that is so unlike my mom to kick me out! like no more than 5 minutes later i went back upstairs and it was beautiful sunny day and i heard my FH downstairs talking to my mom and dad and they were so loud and lively and i wondered what was going on...and then i was like, maybe he is asking them permission to marry me...and then laughed it off.
the very next day we went to the cloisters and we were engaged! i should have caught on since my usually very calm cool and collected FH who is unruffled by anything in this world was so worked up!

He asked my grandfather first (being the patriarch of both families). He told him that my dad was a pushover and it would be easy to talk to him. So FH finally summons up the courage to ask my father. He showed him the ring and asked. My dad's response (with the deadliest stare that even scared my mom) 'if you every put your hands on her...' and that was that. Not for nothing, it made FH even more nervous. 20min later, we were engaged!

Yes, I had no clue that it was going on right under my nose. My dad was taking out the recycling, and FH jumped up and offered to help (I didn't even think to question why two men need to take out one little bag). He asked him while I sat inside in the kitchen. Then he came inside and said, I think I hear your mom calling me. He went downstairs and asked her, too. (Again, how did I fall for that?) A few days later we all went on a family vacation, and we were engaged!

Re: Sort of Spinoff to allornil's Dad post - Did your FH's speak to your Fathers before proposing?

FH had plans on asking my dad before we went away to Vermont. We had originally planned on going to Washington DC and had to cancel that trip due to the 4 ft of snow they got. So we chose VT instead. anyway, I was not suppose to be home from work the few days before we left for VT, but we also got a ton of snow and teh road outside my house was closed for days! as were all the side roads so I couldn't get to work!!! (We live right on Sound Avenue in Baiting Hollow-right by the cooperage/baiting hollow vineyards). so FH was going to ask my dad to get a burger and drinks with him after work but the snow foiled the plan. So we left for VT and the second night we were there he told me he had a surprise planned for that night. So unknown to me while I was in the shower he tried calling my dad's cell 3 or 4 times and he didnt' pick up. He tried my mom's and she didn't pick up as well. So I came out of the shower and he said, I just wanted to tell your dad something I saw on TV about the Yankees what is your parents home number (he didn't have it saved in his phone and we never call it anyway)
Soo, while I was blow drying my hair he went into the living room of the bed and breakfast we were staying at and called and my dad answered and he said that I'm sorry i dont get to ask you this in person but I have a sleigh ride arranged for tonight and want to ask Leah to marry me. blah blah blah so of course my dad said yes....

funny thing is, prior to my dad ansewring teh phone he called the sleigh ride people and told them that he might have to cancel the proposal b/c he hadn't been able to get in touch with my dad and could he txt them when he knew what he was doing? the guy asked if he had cold feet b/c no one has ever cancelled a proposal before on them. he told them no i just want to get her dad's blessing and then txted after he spoke to my dad
