FH and I just got our Pre-Qualification letter and it's for way more than we thought we'd get!!!!
YEAH!!!!
One small step closer to being a home owner.....
(I know the pre-qual letter isn't that big of deal...but I'll take what I can get right now)

Re: Speaking of buying houses......
Sage, what you really want is a pre-approval, not a pre-qual.. technically everyone pre-qual's .. the pre-app is your ticket..

Re: Speaking of buying houses......
Sage- good for you. DH & I have been walking around the hood trying to see what we could possibly afford in the neighborhood- we're thinking about braving it in Journal Square as the Condos there are more affordable.

The Pre-Qual is what I filled out a while back that you need in order to get a Pre-App right????
PLEASE clarify....now I am confused!

Sassy - tell me about it.... How rediculous are the Prices for DownTown ???????????????
I think we are going to go a bit further south if we buy....maybe back towards the shore!

Re: Speaking of buying houses......
They aren't ridiculous compared to most places- but a 2 bedroom seems to be around $250-350 depending where down town it is, square footage, etc. Journal Square has some nice new buildings w/ 24 hour doorman, health club, indoor pool, parking for $199 for 900 sf 2 bedroom- which is small IMO but affordable to us (our mortgage would be LESS than our current rent!)
I am just not ready to give up my urban lifestyle- that's what it comes down to- I want to stay close to the city until I finish my MBA but I don't want to lose all our rental $ when we could be building equity.

Re: Speaking of buying houses......
Yeah...I know I say that all the time to FH Sassy.... About having to start the whole commuting thing again and how much quality of life you loose on the trains...LOL!! THat I will miss about being so close....
It's just that FH really worries about wasting our money on renting.... I guess I do too....
AHHH!!! all this stuff is so stressful!

Re: Speaking of buying houses......
We don't want to waste on renting too- that's why we'd rather buy a condo- hold onto it- build equity- and then rent that property out.. listen- we pay $1400 a month in rent- if we bought that condo in Journal Sq then our Mortgage would be $840 w/ the down we can put down! We'd still be in the position to pay more every month to the principal and build more equity AND save money for our 'dream house'.... I think as the city gets so expensive the yuppies are going to really move into Journal Sq too!

Re: Speaking of buying houses......
Yes....Oh No....Please don't tell me I shouldn't have...(they put that towards the charges....closing costs or whatever....)
It's my company too, I work for a large bank....and we get special approval and 1/4% off the lowest rate!!!
Marcella - TELL ME if that's BS!!!
Alina - we are looking in Holmdel, Rumson, little silver....those areas.... You familiar?

Re: Speaking of buying houses......
Sassy - that sounds like a great idea.... Wish I could talk FH into it!! LOL!
He's stuck on moving into a house out in Suburbia....
I am with you though....I think investing in that would be alot smarter than renting until the 'Dream Home' can be a reality!!!

Re: Speaking of buying houses......
Well DH doesn't want suburbia right now either- I just know we'll move out there and NEVER see our friends or anything- & I love to entertain and I'd be sad if I couldn't.
Speaking about entertaining- John's 32 bday party is May 17th @ our place.

Re: Speaking of buying houses......
John doesn't drink wine- there is something WRONG with him- he likes beer & scotch! But of course, as you now- I love wine.. and port (which I haven't had lately)
