Speaking of dinnerware...

Speaking of dinnerware...

It's being demanded of me that I register for 'Fine china'

So... what counts as fine china? Is it all just relative? I don't want my casual dinnerware to compete with my fine china... but I don't want lame *** dishes for every day just so my fine chaina can look nice in comparison...

But I also don't want something that's $300 a place setting.... cause I don't expect people to do that for me...

Please explain this to me, these are the kinds of things that give me a headache and make the wedding planning part of my brain shut down.

Our china in Love Story by Mikasa. I fell in love with the pattern because I love hearts and it is more expensive then our everyday plates but it's not as bad as some the I've seen. These are $72.00 a setting. HTH

I hear ya. I've been looking at china for the past 2 days and I'm gonna lose it pretty soon

I honestly don't 'SEE' the difference between casual and fine china. I'm sure there are differences but I really have no idea.

I'm inheriting my fine china so I don't have to get that.

My theory, if you're not gonna use it, don't register for it. I mean honestly, I can count the number of times my mom broke out the good china in the 29 years i've been alive on one hand LOL

I don't know the technicaly differences - but I have noticed that most fine china has a lot more detail and even textures to them some times.

I went the lenox route and my china was $119/setting which I thought was expensive but apparently not horrible.

I had REAL moral conflict issues w/ the fine china (especially about the sugar bowl but thats another story) but I am now happy I got it. I want to pass it down to my kids and as much as I like my everyday being able to use the fine stuff when i have to host family functions is kinda nice.

i hope this link works:

it is a list of all fine china 8 place setting sets from Macys that are inexpensive compared to regular china that you buy each setting individually. If you look at parchment for example.. it is $199 for 8 place settings, so that makes it about $25 a place setting

these are mine. It's noritake. $84 per place setting.

It is a difference in the patters and i think what the plates are made of that makes it every day vs china.... you don't need china, you can just use everyday ware. We have a nice patterned correlle for our everyday dishes, so we didn't register for everyday stuff.... just utensils actually.

I refuse to register for china no matter what anyone tells me. I've already said to my mom that we don't have any room for it and whether or not we 'entertain' we will still not use it. We are just registering for dinnerware that is nice enough for special occassion yet durable and casual for everyday use.

i still haven't decided what to do with this one. i registered for plain white dishes for everyday that can be dressed up or down. i'm wondering if i should just stick with that. china is soooo expensive, and i'm not sure i really *need* it. while it's nice to break it out for thanksgiving and stuff, i'm still not sure.

i didn't register for it yet, but i have 18 months before the wedding so i can always add it if i decide it's something we'll use.
